In today’s world, there aren’t many individuals in the United States that don’t use social media. Social media, such as Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, etc., can be used for many things. Some of those could be trying to advertise your business, contact a long-lost friend, or just using it for personal reasons. Whether an individual decides to use social media for business or for personal reasons is completely up to that individual, but some may be required by their employer to use social media to promote their business. When social media was first invented, there wasn’t much of an issue. But as the years have gone on and more and more social media networks are being created and more and more citizens are using it, it makes people question when enough is enough and if it’s starting to be misused. U.S. citizens are lucky to have the freedom of social media, because when used the right way, it can benefit individuals when it comes to finding a job or promoting a job, political advancement, along with other benefits. For example, social media can become an addiction when used too extensively. Say an individual were to constantly look at their social media feeds; soon, they would realize that they no longer have to think to check their feeds. Another con that can happen with social media is when people start to get addicted, they start to lose that human face-to-face interaction. When individuals are glued to their computer or phone screens, they forget that they can actually talk to someone in person. Lastly, social media can be a distraction for employees of a business. Employers can tell their employees to promote their business on their social media pages, but if the employee is more worried about what their friends are posting versus what they should be posting about their business.
