Social media is very popular amongst youths, because of this some people are concerned that youths who post personal information on MySpace and other social media are at risk of being solicited by sexual predators. As a result, some social media like Facebook, Flickr and Flixster have taken precautions to monitor the information provided by underage users. However, there is no way to enforce proof of age or identity even though some sites like facebook refuses to sign up a teenager that is below the age of 13. Manipulation of age in order to register, therefore takes place; so this issue is currently unresolved (Boyd, 2007).
However, there are many benefits to social media, one of which is the ability to make friends and socialize. Another one of those benefits includes diversity because the internet gives individuals from all around the world access to social media. This means that although one may be in the United States, one could develop an online friendship with someone in Nigeria. Not only will one make new friends, but one might just learn a thing or two about new cultures or new languages and learning is always a good
