Social media has made up part of our society in so many different ways and is very important in our society. There are many factors that make social media sites good for our society like allowing people to communicate without being face to face. There are some people who think that social media has made people antisocial and has had negative effects, while others think social media actually helps people connect. This allows them to see if they post inappropriate things on websites. For example, if an employee was about to be promoted to manager, the store could take a look at their social media networking sites and see if they would represent that store well. If the owner had found pictures of them smoking marijuana, or a picture saying how annoying the business and customers are, or some other scenario something along the lines of that, then the business owner may want to reconsider promoting someone else that has the qualifications. This can be a slight disadvantage to those who might not be well-balanced and irresponsible, but it is a huge advantage to those who are responsible and well-balanced. For example, if a company was looking to hire people for a job, then they might consider looking on social media to see if there are any possible candidates for the job position. If one of the candidates has a respectable social media page, then the company might have the person come to the office and have an interview. If used responsibly, social media can help someone looking for a …show more content…
Social media sites bring in tons money for the economy. For example, Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, created this site and now it is worth over two hundred and forty-five billion dollars. According to “CNN Money”, “Facebook now worth more than Walmart” “Walmart is now worth about $235 billion.” This social media sites is worth more then Walmart, which is a huge company. Social media sites bring in a lot of revenue for this economy. Another social media networking site that brings in money is Instagram. Instagram is worth around thirty-five billion dollars (“WeRSM”). These social media sites are well known and very popular, but . In some smaller towns and cities, there are Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter accounts for local businesses . For example, Seaside has an Instagram page that has become very popular over the years. The page is able to post genuine exciting pictures that were taken in Seaside. This not only creates more local business, but it is a fun way to advertise and get connected with the people on social media. If someone who lived in Montana, for example, saw the Seaside Instagram page, I would imagine they would like to come visit the crystal clear, blue water in Seaside. Social media helps advertise businesses in a fun way. Social media sites also allows people who are using the sites to make money. This is a great opportunity for people who have interesting things to say or cool pictures to show to make
According to Nair (2011), “The social media property on the web is exploding and fast becoming a necessary part of the arsenal of any organization. It took 38 years for the radio to attract 50 million listeners, and 13 years for television to gain the attention of 50 million viewers. The Internet took only four years to attract 50 million participants, and Facebook reached 50 million participants in only one-and-a-half years. Facebook, which was originally designed for Harvard students and launched in 2004, has become a phenomenal example of social engagement. By 2009, Facebook had already achieved 100 million monthly active users covering age groups from 13 to 65; by the end of 2010, there were more than 500 million users. (p. 46) With so many people connected through social media and since businesses are dependent on people to thrive, they have been impacted both positively and negatively.
Social media networks are online platforms that electronically connect people, social media uses phone, computers. Boyd and Ellison, (2007) stated that social networks refer to marketing of personal information to the public through the internet. Social networking sites are web networks on which numerous people post private information and have the ability to share messages with other people. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are examples of social media sites allow other people to develop profiles, post videos and photos, share messages, and communicate with family and colleagues (Paul, Baker & Cochran, 2012). Popular free social networking sites allow users to
“The internet has 3.17 billion users. 2.3 billion of those people are users of social media. Every person has about 5.54 social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter , etc. Facebook and Whatsapp handle about 60 billion messages per day” (Smith). These are just a few statistics on how many people use social media and how often they use it. I myself am an active user of social media. I have Twitter and Facebook, Instagram and other accounts even. Social media can be used for good and bad purposes, just like everything. Social media can help things like communication with distant relatives and friends, games and pastimes, having a place for all of your memories and photos, and advertisements for things a user might be interested in. Social media can also have big effects on things like businesses, education, and your everyday life. “In 1995, newsweek published the now infamous article titled, “The Internet, Blah!”
Social media provided people with a mean that they can use to strengthen their connection with people they care about. It also facilitated connections to people that were not possible before. People now can connect with societies from all over the world and are able to be impacted by those connections. This made it easier for people who share similar ideas and problems to communicate with each other. As Davidson explains in her essay “Indisputably, the imagination is engaged in making connections in all of those forms, as it is in anything we experience. It is engaged in a different way when we ourselves are making the connections when we’re browsing from one to another link that interests us and draws our attention” (55). Social media made it easier for people to satisfy their need for communication with others. As social beings, humans like to connect with each other; it is how they develop empathy towards others. As Fredrickson explains in her essay “As you interact with one person after another, they gently nudge you to attend to these others more closely and forge connections when possible. They shape your motives and behaviors in subtle ways, yet ultimately, their actions serve to strengthen your relationships and knit you closer to the social fabric of life” (110). Now social media websites or applications serve as pathways
First of all, the use of social media such as Facebook and Twitter connect people and the world closely and conveniently. Technology
Social Media has impacted many people in the world today, in a positive and negative way. Positive effect on social media is that you can meet new people from all over the world, make new friends. But, there are also negative effects such as cyberbullying and sexual predators. Social media involves from making new friends, to having to go through cyberbullying and sexual predators and other troubles.
Social networking has increasingly had a huge impact on society. Technology has opened the door to a vast amount of information and to the ability to relay that information to practically anybody at anytime and anywhere. People are constantly checking their email, updating their status on Facebook, sending tweets on Twitter, instant messaging, and texting. The debate of whether the use of social networking is a negative or positive aspect is a continuous one. In the case of Steven Pinker, his essay “Mind over Mass Media” argues that media technologies have a positive effect on mental development. In contrast, Sherry Turkle’s essay “Connectivity and Its Discontents” asserts that technology has a negative effect on interpersonal relationships. Although Pinker makes many excellent points on how technology is improving intelligence and Turkle provides exceptional ideas of how technology is damaging to relationships, neither Pinker nor Turkle provides the best answer to this question due to their lack of credibility and inclusion of logical fallacies. Instead, we should, while aware of the risks and dangers of social networking, use the Internet to its full potential.
From the perspective of adolescents and teenagers growing up in such a hyper-connected world, having a smartphone just seems like a necessity, something that all parents feel obliged to giving to their child at a young age, should they have to contact them in case of emergency. But when can an item such as a smartphone turn into a device that sucks away confidence, self pride and the overall well-being of a child? A device that is making a child fear when it should be used in order to help them feel safe. This is what can happen when you introduce social media to children who do understand how to fully use it safely; who don’t understand the implications and consequences that come with silly mistakes made through social media but also don’t
Although social media has provided todays society with instant forms of communication and ways to connect, it also created a new standard for living and has caused problems for many groups of citizens in all walks of life and has caused society to re-think its usage. There are two views about social media, either. It is a positive addition to society and its benefits outweigh the risks, or that social media causes more harm than good and it’s usage should be limited. Some of the ideas that are central to the idea that social media is a benefit to today’s society are that social media encourages increased communication with friends and family, provides fast access to breaking news and other information, and helps businesses attract new business and correspond more quickly with their existing customers.
Today social media has become a big influence on society. There are many different social media sites that allow people to interact with others. Such social media sites are Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. There are many more different sites, but these are the popular networks that are being used today. These sites allow you to connect with anybody you want to. Social media sites can make you feel connected with others and seem like the best thing, but at the same time it can be a weakness that many of us have.

Finally it positively impacts the economy, and the fact that these sites are not used just for casual use anymore, but can create job opportunities. All of these reasons tie into the greater message that social media is positive for the world because it creates a better environment, a potential future in which we
