According to the textbook "A Down-To-Earth Approach" , social class is defined as “a large group of people who rank closely to one another in property, power, and prestige”(Henslin 2011). In the United States people really don 't know the division of the social classes, they just classified themselves as rich, poor or the ones that aren 't rich or poor but they are doing well in life. In this chapter, it shows us the different social classes there are and which ones are expected to succeed in life. Capitalist is the highest of all the other classes, the people in this class are the rich ones and there is not a lot of people in this social class.The textbook "A Down-To-Earth Approach" states “the longer that wealth has been in a family, the more it adds to the family’s prestige”(Henslin 2011).This means that if you are born with rich parents you are rich because your parents are rich.The upper middle class is the second highest and most people in this class have an education and a good job that pays them good. The lower middle class had some education and have okay jobs, but not as good as the upper middle class. The working class has some education as well, and jobs but their jobs aren’t really secure they could be fired or let go if someone with more experience comes along. The working poor really didn’t have an education because most of the people drop out of school just because they didn’t want to go anymore, and others couldn 't attend anymore because they had to help their parents at home. I know this is true because my dad didn 't finish high school because he had to help his parents around the house. They work full time in the fields or other places where the pay usually isn 't good and have to settle for little. Most social classes affect people lives because people in the poor working and underclass are the lowest social class and it’s really hard for them. It also affects people because many people can’t afford to have everything in life and have it as easy as the rich people do. Some people don’t live so long due to sickness in most occasions they don’t have the money for the medicine, and if they do have the money they rather use it for food for their family. Everyone in life makes sacrifices for their family so they won’t have to worry or struggle like they did once. Most parents want their children to have a better life than they did and have a good education, so they could have a good job and have anything they want. Some people struggle more than others, but everyone has problems throughout their life some overcome them and some give up in the process and let their problems control their life to the point that they don’t know what to do
