There is no misunderstanding when it comes to knowing that smoking is bad for a person’s health. Cigarettes contain a highly addicting drug known as nicotine, which can make it difficult for users to stop smoking once they have started. Not only is the drug taking over a person’s body, but also the harmful chemicals and substances that are in a cigarette can be lethal and damaging to someone’s health. An alternative way to light up has been introduced allowing smokers to still get their ideal nicotine dosage without all of the dangers of tobacco cigarettes. However, the issue at hand is that manufacturers have given the assumption that electronic cigarettes are safer to use than cigarettes without given proof. The Food and Drug Administration are questioning the potentials risks of these battery-operated devices. Until the manufacturers come out and confirm the potential risks, the consumers should play it safe and steer clear of electronic cigarettes. In order to help protect the vulnerable youth who are unaware of the potential risks, the Food and Drug Administration should regulate the sale, use and price of theses electronic smoking devices.

The opposing side may say that people have their own free will and should be allowed to make the choices they please. Cigarettes are still available to the public and if the people of legal age choose to smoke regular cigarettes they are free to do so. The warnings are clearly labeled and the short term and long term effects are no mystery to the public. However, because e-cigarettes effects have not been clearly researched and labeled with a warning, regulations should be put on them to protect young adults from potentially harming themselves without knowledge of what they are
