What is the point in harming yourself and others just because you like to smoke? It is an addiction you can stop, but you just have to choose to stop. Cigarettes are responsible for thousands of deaths and smoking related diseases in the United States. Cigarettes don’t just affect you for a little bit it affects your whole life once you start. Cigarettes are something you may have to battle your whole life if you are addicted, it’s a mental and physical battle. Cigarettes should be illegal because cigarettes not only affect the smoker; cigarettes affect everyone around them too. I feel so strongly about making smoking cigarettes illegal because my grandfather died when I was young from lung cancer as a result from smoking cigarettes, and seeing someone I love suffer like that isn’t fair and is something that should not happen. Smoking cigarettes affects both smokers and nonsmokers.
Smoking cigarettes has long term and short term effects on your body, both mental and physical. One of the short term effects of smoking cigarettes is addiction. The addiction for smoking cigarettes can develop quickly in kids who started smoking at a young age. The long term effects are much, much worse. Smoking cigarettes causes different kinds of cancers. Smoking causes lung cancer, mouth cancer, throat cancer, stomach cancer, bladder cancer, cervix cancer, and so much more. Smoking causes lung diseases, heart diseases, cardiovascular diseases, heart stroke, circulatory problems, premature aging, low sperm count and impotence, miscarriages, decreased lung function, infections, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and even death.
