There is a plant that grows in the fields of Virginia, this plant is no ordinary plant. It brought peace among savages, saved economies, and was once common for people of all ages to enjoy it is the Tobacco plant. Times have changed, we now know the dangers that smoking Tobacco brings; lung cancer, heart disease, and COPD just to name a few. Government is scrambling to find solutions the most common suggested solution is smoking bans and in the state of Indiana where many cities and counties have adopted such bans,in many situations they instate these laws with complete disregard for the rights of smokers. It is only about to get worse for smokers as a new ban heading into the second phase of being passed into law here in Marion County. Smokers are currently restricted enough in Marion County with the smoking bans that are in place it provides enough restrictions to limit second hand smoke exposure. These new laws infringe on the rights of smokers it is not illegal so why is starting to feel like it? Secondhand smoke is dangerous and causes serious complications and there does need to be some restrictions to limit exposure. The new public smoking bans alienate smokers and infringe on there right to smoke a legal product.

Smoking bans in Marion County are not new and have been around for a few years now since 2006. The current smoking ban prohibits smoking in enclosed public area’s except for bars, establishments that only serve patrons twenty one and up, and bowling ally’s. There are even outdoor restriction, you cannot smoke within thirty five of a doorway or other opening to a building especially in areas of high pedestrian traffic. ... their day to day lives. As time passes many states are now completly restricting smoking in public going as far as to ban smoking in any living unit that shares a wall or ceiling with another living unit.

There are many laws and regulations in our nation, to protect the rights of all citizens to provide some sort equality to all. There is a line that is beginning to be crossed when it comes to the rights of smokers. It is not illegal to smoke tobacco in the United States so way place so many regulations on it to where it is impossible to smoke tobacco legally. Even though secondhand is harmful many strides have already been in place to drastically cut down on secondhand smoke exposure. So when is enough, enough many feel that this is enough we need consider all parties. The current bans have accomplished enough further bans will infringe on the right of smokers.
