Smartphones have become part of our daily life. We check emails, make payments, watch videos for entertainment, and scroll through the news or social media to see what is happening today so we can be up to date. As people walk by in shopping stores, they see young children under the age of ten with smartphones. Should children at a young age have a smartphone? If the children under the age of ten or younger have smartphones, then children are distracted in class, addicted to playing games and watching videos for entertainment, and are influenced through social media, as a result smartphones should be limited or not given at that young age.

In a newspaper article Advocates Slam IPad Devices for Infants by Cecilia Kang states, “The seat is chafing parents and child advocates who say the introduction of screen technology so early is harmful to the health and development of babies” (Cecilia Kang). Companies are influencing to give little kids smart devices right when they are newborns. In the same article it has been stated “The American Academy of Pediatrics discourages screen time for children younger than 2, including mobile technology. As companies rush to integrate technology into toys, baby gear and classrooms, doctors and child advocates say children are immersed more than ever in a world of screens. That constant access to games, television and the Internet may be taking away from family time, exercise and discovery in the physical world, critics say” (Cecilia Kang). Children at a young age should not get used to having devices because it will become an addiction. A decade ago, children used to play with toys not with iPads or smartphones. Why do children at a young age need smartphones or devices now? Technology will keep updating, but young children under the age of ten should know technology is not the only thing they have to play
