Benjamin Franklin once said "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise." This quote contains a lot of wisdom. Many people like a lot of sleep but not everyone get the amount of rest recommended each night. Lack of sleep is the condition of not having enough sleep. While sleep is a necessity its importance is undervalued; lack of sleep may cause health, academic and safety issues.
Health Risks cause by sleep disorders can be obesity, heart diseases, diabetes and depression. Obesity is a health factor that many countries are suffering from but the obesity in society is not always from bad eating habits, obesity can be cause by a sleeping disorder. Not getting enough sleep each night can make one gain weight. If one is tired their body will want to eat anything with sugar or foods that can raise the body’s blood sugar level because it wants to get energy. This can eventually cause high blood sugar and can be a bad thing for people with sleep problems. Short sleep can lead to changes in metabolism and excess body weight. This has been most associated with children. It is believed that sleep in childhood and adolescence is most important for brain development. Children and adults who get too little sleep tend to weigh more than those who get enough sleep. Sleep deprivation can increase chances of becoming obese in many ways. People who don't get enough sleep and ussually too tired to exercise, decreasing the amount of calories burned during the day. People who don’t get enough sleep may take in more calories simply because they have more opportunities to eat and may be hungrier than those who get enough rest each night.

With every responsibility one has to do throughout the day keeping a set sleep schedule can be difficult. Sleep is something many people enjoy but not everyone is able to get a sufficient amount every night, causing health, academic and safety issues. These issues effect society in their every day lives negatively with different deceases problem and accidents. Sleep may take up a lot of time but it is very helpful for everybody, but too much sleep can also be bad.
