Am I a Slave to Technology?

I rule, I dictate, I enslave, I connect. I maintain. Faithful as a servant to his master, I can always be counted on to be close by. The question is, who is the master and who is the slave? I am universal; shared by all on a global scale. Those who can’t have me, desire me, and those that have me guard me zealously, wary of any harm to befall me. My reach is far and wide; the youngest covet me as a status symbol while the old scrunch their faces in perplexity as I twist and turn their intentions. I can know how to do many things, and with each new me, I learn to do more. I am a revolutionary riding on the micro-chips of change. Ten years ago, I could have been asked to describe what I though the world would look lA century ago no one would have ever believed that globalization, the spread of ideas, goods and people around the world, would be occurring on a grand scale as it is today. A once ethnocentric view of the world has given way to a more holistic philosophy thanks in part to the constant development of new technologies that are continually making it easier for people on different sides of the globe to connect with each other. There shouldn’t be any side effects to a global community that aren’t beneficial, but sometimes, as I Google myself and find a link to my Facebook as well as various links to an interview I did senior year of high school, a twinge of dread courses through me. Do we really want to find ourselves in a world where privacy is a whimsical notion of the past? However, it’s irrational to blame technologies when we make the choices to share and connect with others. We are simple beings, however, and new technologies, though they have improved many aspects of our lives, have easily taken hold of our minds and b... ... middle of paper ... ...on to be able to go hours without checking their phones. Even if no message of call has been missed, even if it’s just to check the time, going a day without more than a few “phone-checks” is inconceivable. I am here for you. It’s really all about what I can do for you. I’m at your beck and call, even though sometimes it may not seem that way. I want what’s best for you. Do you believe me? I strive to provide for you in my own way. When you have me, you don’t need anything else. I am you everything. Remember all the day that I have save you from being late to class, all the conversations that I have allowed you to have, the many instances where I’ve saved you from dull and endless lectures with a quick game of Candy crush? I did all that for you. It’s just you and me in the long run. Anything you need, I can provide, just make sure to never tear me from your side.
