There are many religions in this world and, as citizens of the United States, we are able to practice any religion that we desire. Some religions are very different from one another, but some are similar to each other. For example, Christianity and Buddhism, have certain details that differ from each other, but these religion also share some details as well. To find the similarities and differences we must go to the roots of these religions.
Buddha, formerly know and Siddhartha Gautama, is the founder of Buddhism. Buddha was a wealthy prince who practically had everything he ever needed, but Buddha was not satisfied with living his life that way. Buddha wanted more in life than just wealth and fame. People who follow Buddhism’s teachings treat people of other faiths with respect. They believe that an ill-directed mind brings more harm to yourself than the person being targeted. “Whatever harm an enemy may do to an enemy, or hater to a hater, an ill-directed mind inflicts on oneself a greater harm.” (“The Mind Verses” 8) This explains how violence is not the answer. You will only end up hurting yourself more than you’ll hurt the person your hate is being directed towards. The first followers must’ve seen how peaceful Siddhartha’s life was and wanted to live that same peaceful life. Buddhism gains peacefulness as a benefit from treating others with different faiths with respect. Those who practice Christianity treat people of other faiths with respect also and refrain from judging. A quote that helps prove this is, “Judge not, hat you be not judged. For with the judgement you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.” (Sermon on the Mount ch. 7).This quote does not particularly refer to those of different faiths, but it says that those who judge will be judged. However, the judging will not rule in his favor. The first followers must have followed this solution to ensure their chances of getting into heaven.
