The book Silent Spring was written by Rachel Carson. Carson was a teacher who also conducted research. This book is well written and shows Carson’s professionalism as well as making the effort to educate people on the topic of pesticides. One of her biggest research impacts was when she researched pesticides and its effects on the environment. This book is based around the conflict of chemical poisons that attack the parts of the Earth such as water and its creatures that inhabit it. The title Silent Spring comes from the idea of everything on Earth working together. This includes all of the elements on Earth and humans as well. Since everyone is able to get along everyone can equally enjoy the natural sounds that come from the beautiful spring days as all the plants and animals grow and get along.
The protagonist is identified throughout the book as the Earth and everything associated with it, which is being attacked by the poisonous chemicals. These chemicals are able to watch and control the surrounding insect populations which make it more dangerous. The antagonist is the poisons. These poisons are used as insect killers. These chemicals are used in the United States and the producers of the product have no worries regarding the health and safety of the people and other factors that may come into contact with the insect poisons.
Carson’s main reason for writing a book like this is to push the point of people becoming more conservative and taking care of the environment. When it comes to pesticides in this book it is clear that they are harmful to the environment and humanity when not used properly. Carson describes the importance of this issue and pushed for the improvement of the system. She proposes multiple solutions in order to keep the people and animals safe while getting rid of the insects that have become an annoyance. As a writer and researcher Carson is passionate and determined to find out new ways of solving the problem at hand. Unlike the rest of the people in the book, Carson takes the more educated and logical approach to prove her point that what they have chosen as a solution is not affective and actually more destructive for the environment.
