“I heard Sarah f****** George at Anna’s party, LMFAO what a slut!” was what someone posted anonymously on the application “Yik Yak.” Was is true? Of course not, but what if it was? Why would me having sex with another individual make a slut? Whenever I would even sit next to a guy people would think I was trying to seduce him and eventually have sex with him. If I wore shorts that looked “too short” I would get stared down and get comments that I dress slutty. Do you want to experience the shaming? Easy! Bat your eyelashes, wear something tight, and talk in a flirty voice, that is, if you’re ready to be called a slut. While you’re at it, hang out with some guys, and maybe even make some physical contact, a tap on the shoulder should be more than enough. It is actually quite simple to be labeled a “slut”, just mind your own business, do what makes you happy and allow those around you to fill up with jealousy and judgement. That’s because it is, in the United of States America and many other countries, there is a large population within society that feels the need to attack and destroy the morale of women. Especially, those who are confident about themselves and all the actions they take in life. Even if a woman is a virgin, she can be targeted and labeled a slut. Women who actually participate in sexual relations with multiple partners are ridiculed even more. They are seen as “trashy,”and easy, the complete opposite of what men are seen as when they perform the exact same actions. Slut shaming is something I am extremely...

...ual relations are regulated by almost everyone.
After establishing the reasons why people slut shame, the end results and unfair standards society uphold, I hope people realize that slut shaming is a serious problem. People can come up with a million reasons as to why they slut shame women but there is no actual moral justification to destroy the spirit of a woman. This is why I encourage women to work together instead of against each other to put a stop to shaming. Young girls should not be raised to grow up to be women who believe it is their fault that others refer to them as slut. A women has every right to dress “sexy” and she should not be entitled a label for doing so. Once society rids themselves of the idea that a woman should not embrace their hyper sexuality, progress will begin to show and double standards will slowly diminish along with the term “slut.”.

Essay on Slut Walk: Women’s Empowerment Walk

- In a recent movement called the “Slut Walk”, a protest began after a Toronto police officer told a group of college women that, “if they hoped to escape sexual assault, they should avoid dressing like “sluts”” (Traister, Par 1). The college students were enraged by the ignorance the cop displayed and the assumption the cop made that dressing in provocative clothing is an invitation to rape. Thus began “Slut Walk,” a movement followed by thousands of men and women all across the world. Their message is “Yes means yes and no means no” (Pikigton, Par 4)....   [tags: Women's Rights ]

Shakespeare's As You Like It - The Many Flavors of Love Essay

- As You Like It:   The Many Flavors of Love         As You Like It is remarkable among Shakespeare's plays for ending with four marriages, something of a record even among comedies. Love is a central theme of the play, although in some of its variations it cannot quite be said to be romantic. The love relationships may, at first glance, appear to be stock types: Rosalind and Orlando representing romantic hero-heroine love, Silvius and Phebe combining love in the lower classes with unrequited love, Audrey and Touchstone a darker attempt to seduce, and Celia and Oliver simple tying up of loose ends....   [tags: Shakespeare As You Like It Essays]

Rape Culture and Victim Blaming Essays

- To find rape culture in today’s society all you need to do is look to the radio. The definition of rape is forced sexual intercourse, meaning unconsented vaginal, oral or anal penetration (“Who Are the Victims?”). Unlike other well-defined crimes, rape comes up in today’s culture as something that has many grey areas between rape and sex. These ‘blurred lines’ lead to a prevalence of rape culture and victim blaming....   [tags: slut walk, consent, sexual assault]
