Challenges are part of any business or organization. Whether its introduction of a new line of business or retrenching, involving the support staff especially those likely to affected by the decision is always important. The support staff should be included in the planning and decision-making process since most of the time; they are the one who implements the decisions made. Realization that success of any company depends on its support staff and other stakeholders makes their inclusion in most of the decision processes inevitable.
Involving the support staff in planning, and decision-making process addresses both professional and personal stake for the employees involved. This commitment leads to increased productivity as employees are participating in every aspect of a decision. The increased responsibility also increases skills on the employees’ side translating into increased production. Involving the staff on important decision-making processes boosts their morale since everybody feels like they own the project in a way. Employees understand their actions are important, and the success of the decision depends on them. Rather than outsourcing for ideas, using the support staff saves the organization some money and time, at the same time offering long-term reliable assistance. It also promotes teamwork since the employees are given an opportunity to air their opinions. For the company, it presents a good way to gather details on how the support team can work as a team (Poister, 2004).
