The Good That Comes With Legalizing Imagine having to sneak around to do something and having to worry about getting caught. It makes you get paranoid and fearful. Or worse trying something just because it 's illegal, it draws your attention why it 's not allowed for everyone to use it. This is what drugs being illegal feel like for most people that have used drugs. They might not even be getting hurt because of drugs, yet they aren 't allowed to use them. Drugs have always been a huge problem not only in America but everywhere. When people talk about drugs they usually point out all the bad it does, for the health and economy. There are many ways that legalizing drugs could help everyone. Legalizing drugs not only would provide …show more content…
People will actually become educated on drugs. It 's surprising how many take drugs without knowing how bad it could harm their bodies. Addicts won 't be as afraid to get help from programs or those close to them. Addiction can really only be treated with the help of someone. Addicts can 't do it themselves, and if they try they often fail and it leads them to death. Drugs bought on the streets are often more dangerous than the drug itself. These dealers find ways to earn more money even if it is hurting their clients more. They mix these drugs with other substances to make their amounts of drugs larger. Or they mix drugs with substances that make this high “greater” but actually kill or cause bad effects on people. Prisons are becoming overcrowded which only leaves us one option, to reduce random prisoners sentences. These prisoners could be worse than drug users, which only go on and cause more harm to others. The black market just keeps growing with drugs not being legal. This is only causing more violence everywhere. Drugs being legal could save more lives than you
Did you know that marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug, with 19.8 million past-month users according to the 2013 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. That year, marijuana was used by 81.0 percent of current illicit drug users. Now think if every state in America was to legalize marijuana. There would be so many pros and cons that will change the economy. In this paper I will tell u all the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana. Some pros are that it will help cure many illnesses and different forms of pain, it will decrease the crime rate, and will help the economy. But, as a result of legalizing marijuana there will be cons. For example it will affect teens, harm the person smoking marijuana, and harm those around the person
Drugs will even become safer for those who are willing to use them. Government regulations on drug quality will make the drugs more pure, and potent, taking the harmful additives that some drug makers put in. Like cigarettes, warnings would probably be posted on drug packages stating “The use of crack may be harmful to your health.” As well as on windows of the stores that sells the drugs. An age limit to buy drugs would probably be 21. Clean, sterile needles would also be provided to heroin users and stop the spread of diseases such as AIDS from contaminated and dirty needles.
Many feel today we are loosing the war on drugs. People consider legalization unnecessary. They feel that it will increase the amount of drug use throughout the world. They state that in many cases, drug users who have quit quit because of trouble with the law. Legalization would eliminate the legal forces that discourage the users from using or selling drugs. They also say that by making drugs legal, the people who have never tried drugs for fear of getting caught by the law will have no reason to be afraid anymore and will become users (Potter 1998).
There are two reasons why drug use ought to be prohibited, one is that it causes harm to the user and the second is that it causes harm to people other than the user (third parties). The argument that drug use causes harm to the user is supported by the fact that illicit drugs may can worsen the user’s health and in some causes can even causes death. Secondly, drugs can damage the user relationship with the people he cares about the most. When a person is on drugs, it messes with their sense of judgement and their reactions to certain things- such as they may argue with their bosses, their parents or anyone close to them for that matter. Also, people who uses drugs are more likely to have financial problems. Whatever money they get from working, they would spend it on drugs and not on necessities, and whenever they do not have money they will do anything in their power such as staling to obtain it. Michael Huemer argues that recreational use of drugs should be legal, because
Introduction The legalization of marijuana is considered a controversial issue, something that can benefit people for medical purposes, but what about recreationally? Marijuana has been illegal since 1937, but there’s never been a bigger push for legalization. There are several reasons why it is illegal, because of government propaganda and big industry not wanting to lose money, but this will be discussed later. The purpose of this paper is to educate, theorize, and discuss various aspects of marijuana, such as its history, development, and the advantages and disadvantages of marijuana legalization. Finally, my personal reflection on legalization and marijuana in general will be discussed.
There are plenty of advantages to legalizing drugs. First marijuana is safer than alcohol and is not a lethal drug. Also getting a marijuana overdose is impossible and it’s not as addictive as tobacco or alcohol. Legalizing drugs may even reduce the crime because the drugs will be easier to get. People won’t have to buy the drugs on the street which can reduce the black market, because most of the gangs and cartels will have to either quit selling the drugs or open up a legal business. Another reason legalizing drugs is beneficial is that the prisons are overcrowding with people who owned or sold drugs. If we took everybody out of the prisons that are associated with drugs, our prisons would be less crowded, rather than way over the maximum. This would also save many tax dollars because they won’t be spent on trying to keep people in prisons. Maybe if we legalize ...
significant health, social, and crime problems, and legalized drugs would only make the situation worse. The legalization lobby claims drugs are no more dangerous than alcohol, no more harmful than smoking cigarettes. But drunk driving is one of the primary killers of Americans. Do we want our bus drivers, nurses, and airline pilots to be able to take drugs one evening, and operate freely at work the next day? No, of course we don’t so why we legalize drugs that would give us those type of problems. Although, legalization recovering addicts claim that the United States has wasted billions of dollars in its anti-drug efforts. But for those who were saved from drug addiction, it’s as many wasted dollars. Compared to the social costs of drug
This would lead to more drug addicts. According to Charles Schuster (1990), the author of the article “Drug legalization: Pro and con” the legalization of drugs would just lead to more drug users steering them into addiction. With the legalization of drugs, the supply would be greater than the demand, creating a surplus of substances (Shuster, 1990). In other words, there would be so many drugs available that people who really want to use drugs could acquire them as easily as buying groceries from a grocery. This could lead to many hazardous situations such as people driving vehicles while under the influence of drugs. We have already seen how dangerous driving while under the influence of alcohol is and could assume driving while high on drugs would lead to the same
Drug abuse must be stopped. We should attack the supply and demand. We should keep drugs from entering the country and incarcerate dealers and smugglers. To attack the demand, we should educate young people on the risk of bodily harm, mental harm and the damage to family and relationships. Legalization of some less harmful drugs, such as marijuana, might help reduce the crimes associated with them, but it would be hard to regulate and legalization would only eliminate some of the direct criminal results, not the actual harm of the drug.
Drug use is slowly becoming more common within our society, especially the use of marijuana recreationally. To fully grasp the pros and cons of recreational drug use of marijuana, it is important to first understand the meaning of both ‘recreational drug use’ and ‘marijuana’ or ‘cannabis’. Harding and Willacy (2014) defines recreational drugs as chemical substances taken for enjoyment, or leisure purposes, rather than for medical reasons. Recreational drug use is normally undertaken to provide pleasure, or improve life in some way. The Concise Medical Dictionary (2014) define cannabis as a recreational drug prepared from the Indian hemp plant (Cannabis sativa), also known as pot, marijuana, hashish, and bhang. Smoked or swallowed, it produces euphoria and affects perception and awareness, particularly of time; high doses may cause hallucinations. The nonmedical use of cannabis is illegal; its principal psychoactive ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol, has a limited therapeutic value. To further investigate recreational drug use of marijuana it is essential to understand first its role within our society. Once its position has been established, the pros and cons can be investigated along with evidence of a psychological experiment by Wayne Hall and Joan Nelson.
need to be marketed. In addition, there will be a variety of legalized drugs. Not only will
Why would anyone want to legalize drugs? Drugs are bad . How can drugs be so deadly and addictive in a helpful way. All twenty-three states that have legalized drugs in the United States have not brought any good among our country. The legalization of these harmful drugs have only caused more corruption making addiction rates even higher . The states have legalized the drugs thinking they can cure diseases and take away pain. Legalizing drugs allows patients to sell their drugs on the black market. For example heroin is suppose to ease cancer pain, but this is a drug that can lead to infection of the blood vessels and heart valves and cause veins to collapse. Another example is Glaucoma, which is a fluid pressure disease to the eye. The tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that is found in marijuana decreases the fluid pressure inside the
Drugs will always be there, and people will always use them. It is just a matter of reducing and benefiting from it by legalizing it. If drugs were legalized they should be consumed in a controlled environment, not anywhere else. With that being said you can't go out and sell it, give some to dealers, commit a crime while high, nor be a threat to the public. Then I thought, there will still be illegal drugs roaming around because the dealers need money; but they cannot grow or make a profit from their businesses, because if the consumers want to purchase some marijuana they would buy it where it is legal. Thus, the dealers would go out of business trying ...
Drug addiction is a chronic which always the brain disease is relapsed that leads to the seeking of compulsive drugs (NIH 2012). Nowadays, drug abuse still is a serious issue for a long time although the government tries to control the drugs by rigorous imprisonment and better education program. Some people cannot understand that why and how people can be a drug addicted person. And the drug users are regarded as the lack of moral principles or willpower (National Institute on Drug Abuse 2012). People think there is no way to reduce the number of the people who take drugs, so drugs should be legalized. Another reason is that the drugs illegal poses threat to society. If the drug is legal, the society would be more peaceful. As far as I am concern,
Leading to an increase in drug experimentation by the youth and an increase in crack houses, where most laced drugs are produced. There is a reason why these drugs are illegal and it 's because of their harmful effects and the damage they cause the human body. Drug users, are often recognized as people who commit crimes, murder, rape, and other violence including burglary. With drug laws, it creates a fear in people of getting in trouble with the law and is a major reason to not use drugs. The legalization of drugs would not lower crimes rates as there would be more and more addicts as well as large black markets for drugs. Although these drug users commit crimes to obtain these drugs, it is obvious to see they would still be committing these crimes to obtain the drug even if it is legalized. Either way, a crime is still being committed they just have an easier way to steal the drug from someone. Which means the crime rates would start to rise, leading to the population of prisoners increasing, which also leads to the government spending more money on organizing jail facilities to hold these prisoners. One state in particular where marijuana is now legal, has started to come to the realization that maybe it wasn’t a good idea to leaglize this drug. Kevin A. Sabet, Ph.D., an assistant professor at the University of Florida and President of SAM points out that,
