College can be define as an institution of higher learning, especially one providing a general or liberal arts education rather than technical or professional training. (Dictionary.com) College today has vastly adapted to modern technology and modern society. Many colleges have been reconstructed for a targeted type of student. Universities are design for the student seeking to further their education within a scholarly environment. Two year colleges are design for the student seeking higher education with the options to seek vocational training or academic degree. And Technical colleges are design strictly vocational training for the career of their choice. Lately, there has been discussion to merge DeKalb Tech College and Georgia Perimeter College under the Technical College System of Georgia structure for academic learning. But the mere idea of merging is raising a lot of concerns for both current students and future student deciding on the higher education. So, is merging Georgia Perimeter College with DeKalb Technical College, effective for the students seeking an academic education?
Community colleges are design to accept all students, and assist for the transition into the traditional university for an academic degree. GPC is an associate degree constructed college and is ranked third largest institution in the University System of Georgia. GPC takes in undergraduate students each semester, which many consist of transfer students. GPC sends more students on to traditional universities than any other college within the USG. Glendale Community College is a community college in Glendale, Arizona. GCC opened its doors in 1965 with only one college and it was established by the Governing Board as the second MCCCD College (Maricopa County Community College District), as well as is in charge to offer the higher educational needs of the Valley. In august 1967, the association of colleges and secondary schools declared and accredited GCC as an individual college. GCC has the power to inspire and help students to growth as well as change lifes.in fifty years, there are being around half of a million of GCC students that have been graduated with two- degrees, completed a career training or transferred to a university. GCC help students to enrollment through graduation, with the help of advisors, tutors and counselors because they guide students with their own experience. ‘‘Glendale Community College is one of ten, higher education institutions in the Maricopa College District’’ (MCCCD). GCC also have many championships. For example; 1967 cross country, 1968 baseball, 1988 football, 1944 women’s softball, 1996 women’s basketball, 2000 football, and 2005 football (Glendale Community College Athletics Record). GCC offers me many options of sports where I can get involve and make my college life more fun. In addition GCC has grown with the communities it serves by expanding facilities and programs at its main campus and by offering classes in various sites throughout the area (GCC).
One major decision one must make after exiting high school is whether to go to a university or go to community college. In the article “Two Year Are Better Than Four,” written by Liz Addison. She expressed her opinion on the significance of community colleges in comparison with the university. She stated that community college do not receive the acknowledgment and appreciation that they deserve. “what’s the matter with colleges?,” (Addison 255). although, there is a lot to agree with within the article there are some faulty statements that two year colleges don’t offer the best education possible and that community college are more engaging and individualized for a student and the price is also much less expensive than a university education.

Community colleges have been tool used by many American students and families as a means of affordable education for better life for themselves and their children. Community colleges has played a big role in helping middle and lower income families who can 't afford to go to 4 years colleges ,the chance to educate themselves and their children. Community college was created in order to give basic liberal , technical and vocational education to all willing to be educated.

Caroline Bird writes the statement in her 1975 article “The Case Against College (Bird 15-18)” that not every high school graduate is ready to attend college. It is 2010 and this article is still valid today. Some of the college students I have been around were not mature enough for obedience school let alone college. A few of the points she makes in the article are: College has never worked its magic for everyone. Does it make you a better person? Are colleges responsible for your children? Are my children living in a country club? I will use some of my own experiences as an example of college life, as well as examples from my daughter’s college experience, along with my nephews as well. All to find the answer to the big question: Are you ready for a college education?
Throughout the years, America has always debated whether education is needed- if it helps people succeed or not. The argument in the past was always over high school education, which is now mandatory. That decision has helped the US rise economically and industrially. Today, the US is in the middle of the same debate- this time, over college. Some, like David Leonhardt, a columnist for the business section of The New York Times, think a college education creates success in any job. Others, such as Christopher Beha, an author and assistant editor of Harper’s Magazine, believe that some college “education” (like that of for-profit schools) is a waste of time, and can even be harmful to students. Each stance on this argument has truth to it, and there is no simple answer to this rising issue in an ever changing nation full of unique people. Any final decision would affect the United States in all factions- especially economically and socially. However, despite the many arguments against college, there is overwhelming proof that college is good for all students, academically or not.
