Through His chosen prophets and apostles in a statement called “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”, the Lord has declared that "marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children." In today's society, we find the traditional family unit under attack in the form of same sex unions. These "marriages" are not in tune with the will of our Heavenly Father and certainly play no role in His eternal plan of happiness. The result of these practices will be immorality in the home, degradation of our society, and a weaker nation. As President Benson stated in General Conference of 1982, "Marriage [between a man and a woman] is the rock foundation, the cornerstone, of civilization. No nation will ever rise above its homes."
"Laws legalizing so-called “same-sex marriage” do not change God’s law of marriage or His commandments and our standards concerning it. We remain under covenant to love God and keep His commandments and to refrain from serving other gods and priorities—even those becoming popular in our particular time and place." (Dallin H.Oaks Conference 2013) I had never taken the time to really think about what it meant to serve other Gods. I always just assumed that it literally meant to not worship people or items that said they were God. When writing this paper I was able to gain a greater understanding of this commandment. When it says to refrain from serving other gods that can mean laws, or ideas that the world deems to be true.
Satan has always attacked the family, knowing that the basics of testimony and happiness are found in Christ-centered homes. Our society has gradually allowed his influence into our beliefs and va...

...y to get worse. We need to continually seek out the Lord. We cannot make it through without Him. Stand up for what you believe in. Be an advocate for marriage and family, we are going to need as many as we can get. As Elder Oaks put it, “Let us have the courage to defy the consensus, the courage to stand for principle. Courage, not compromise, brings the smile of God’s approval. Courage becomes a living and an attractive virtue when it is regarded not only as a willingness to die manfully, but as the determination to live decently. A moral coward is one who is afraid to do what he thinks is right because others will disapprove or laugh. Remember that all men have their fears, but those who face their fears with dignity have courage as well.”

married (“Gay Marriage Statistics” 1). Prejudice against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual (LGBT) community has existed for years. LGBT individuals are often bullied, abused, and denied their basic rights and benefits. The right to marry is one of them. Same-sex marriage should be legalized because marriage is indeed a civil right, it provides many benefits, and would be beneficial to society as a whole. The gay rights movement dates back to the late 1960s, when police raids on gay bars were
often people ask the question, why should gay marriage be legalized? However, what they should really be asking is: why should other people be able to decide who one can or can not marry? When a marriage occurs between a man and a woman, society does not seem to care. Yet, when two men or two women decide to marry, society acts like it is completely absurd. People do not realize how beneficial legalizing same-sex marriage can be. Same-sex marriage should be legalized across the nation because it would
Gay and lesbian unions have been for a long time a subject that no one liked to discuss. For the last few decades, gays and lesbians have come out and expressed their sexuality preferences. Many believe that same sex marriage should not be legalized because it's against the moral. It's against the definition of marriage, which is considered as the union of a man and a woman as a husband and wife. Same sex marriage should be legalized because the way society views the union of lesbian and gays can
question that should be debated is not whether gay marriage should be allowed, but rather, is marriage something we need anymore?” this quote was said by David Vaklis addressing that if people aren’t going to accept homosexuals, then why should we have marriage. The debate is whether people will accept homosexuals, and, will gay marriages be legalized across the United States and not just in certain areas. Even though it is against traditional marriage religion, gay marriage shall be legalized because
Let’s Legalize Gay Marriage Gay marriage is a right. Heterosexual couples are allowed to enjoy all the marriage benefits, so why shouldn’t same-sex couples be able to? Why should other people be able to choose who marries who? If a man and a woman get married, no one seems to care. Gay marriage should be legal because it’s an issue of equal rights, it would save society money, and it will increase the chances for foster children to be adopted into loving families. Same-sex marriage is an issue of
Gay Rights in America Within America’s society today, 3.8 percent of the population is gay, lesbian, or bisexual. With only 17 of the 50 states legalizing and recognizing this type of relationship (“History…”), it puts a stronghold on same-sex couples to publicly declare their love with the promise of marriage. Same-sex marriages should be legalized because everyone has equal rights of freedom and liberty. Throughout the recent history of America, gay marriage has always been an issue. With the different
Gay, lesbian, heterosexual, homosexual, transgender, means we should all be treated equally. We are all humans of the same race and deserve a right to freedom. Which means we should be able to choose who we want to marry. Love is a powerful word and as well as marriage,. They both contradict eachother. Some say if you are in love you do not need to be legally married to show it. Others may say opposite. But the questions that many ask is should same sex marriges be aloud in Canada? My answer to this
Gay rights have always been a controversial topic. Some say that gays go against what the bible says, while others say just let them be happy. If being gay makes them happy then they should be allowed to be gay, being gay is in their pursuit to happiness which is one of their inalienable rights that no one can impede upon. Gay Rights have always been a struggle but soon will be triumphant and be a part of the past just as the civil rights movement. 36 states have legalized same-sex marriage total;
same-sex marriage is a topic that is often discussed. In 2010, there were approximately 646,000 same-sex couples in the United States according to the 2010 decennial census, (Lofquist, 2010). As of Jan. 6, 2014, gay marriage has been legalized in 17 of the 50 states, (procon.org, 2014). For a very brief amount of time, Michigan was the 18th state that allowed gay couples to marry, but now it joins Utah, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Texas. These states have had courts overturn gay marriage bans, but they
Marriage is the most powerful way for couples to show their love. However, it will be unfair for someone to try and negate the rights of married couples. Therefore, all types of marriages including gay marriages should be legalized since couples deserve equal rights and freedom. Opponents of gay marriage point out that it is against God’s laws, but they forget that the same Bible also promotes equality regardless of gender, race and religion. Moreover, if marriage is all about love, then those in
Gay rights have been an issue for many years now. Many People believe they should have their rights and many people believe they should not have their rights. Gays need their rights because they are like every other human being; gays have two legs, two arms, two eyes, etc. The only difference about gays is their interests, but other than that they are like every other person. What happened to “All Men Are Created Equal”? This is stated in the constitution. Gays have been around for a very long time
Gay Marriage has been debated in many countries for a long time. It interferes with citizens civil rights so is therefore a major issue. Many gay couples today have come out and expressed their sexuality. To Begin With, marriage of the same sex better encourage strong
As you watch her, you notice how happy she is about this marriage. Both partners say “I do,” and you hear the clergyman say, “I pronounce you wife and wife.” The church erupts with applause as your friend and her partner share their first kiss as a legally married couple. That is fantasy that has yet to come true for most homosexual couples. The war for same-sex marriage has yet to be won in America. Through multiple court cases, the gay rights movement has been fighting to give homosexuals the
constitution required a good reason not to give gay’s equal marriage rights. Congress was pushed to pass the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which prevented homosexuals who were allowed to marry from receiving the usual benefits of marriage, like taxes and retirement. In response states have made their stand on domestic partnerships and civil unions. DOMA was passed out of fear that a lawsuit filed in Hawaii would make them allow same sex marriage. The congress did not want to allow same sex couples the
they love. You should care about this topic because it is wrong to refuse people who love each other the right to marry. Today I?m going to persuade you about why gay marriage should be legal. Gay couples should have the same benefits straight couples do. Denying somebody the right to marry makes a second class and it discriminates them. (?Should Gay Marriage be Legal?) Legalizing gay marriage means equal benefits including adoption. (?List of Pros and Cons of Gay Marriage.") If gay couples can adopt
