Should College Tuition Be Free?

College tuition should be free in the United States, in order to compete with the rest of the world in every sphere, including (but not limited to) economics, business, politics, science and technology. If a single person cannot afford education only because of financial reasons, it is a failure of the nation. People now live in a highly competitive, global economy, and if the economy needs to be strong, best-educated workforce is the first requirement. America will have a stronger economy and a sturdier democracy when all ambitious and talented young people can reach their full potential, and this can only be acquired by making the college education available for all citizens irrespective to their financial status. In order to have the best-educated workforce in the world, making the college tuition free can create possibilities to lead a more prosperous and equitable America, with more responsible and educated citizens. Education will help citizens with a better job, better life choices and better future. This will indirectly boost the economy of the country. A better workforce will be created to serve the nation and a greater benefit will be realized.
Education in one of the basic needs and should be available to all, regardless of anyone’s financial situation. A recent study from the Pell Institute showed that only 9% of students from the lower income families obtain a bachelor’s degree by age 24, compared to 77% wealthiest (Kelly 2015). If all the students have the money to complete their college degree and get a job according to their qualification, they will always have a chance to pay back to their college, to the society and after all, to the whole nation. Some people do not want to get into college after high school and study forever for good reasons. These people usually have lower grades in high school or just unwilling to study. But people with a college degree usually makes more money and have more job opportunity than the people who have not earned a college degree. These people contribute to the science, technology, politics and business more effectively than the people without a college degree. And a lot of willing students cannot afford a college degree because of their financial insufficiency. So, without any doubt, removing the barrier of enormous amount of tuition can go a long way for future developed and progressed America.
