Should College be free? Every one that had intentions of starting college all secretly dream the same thing, that college to one day be free. And so everyone can have a fair shot at furthering their education, and getting a better job, as well so students can live as much debt free life as possible. With this topic there are various things that factor in to having a free tuition. To have a free tuition it is almost impossible. It begins with the question ‘how will the professors be paid?’ What every students seems to forget is that professors still need to get paid to teach. If there is not a tuition that every student pays for the teachers to teach them then it is possible they will get paid like public school teachers get paid, through …show more content…
Many people use the phrase that education is an investment, which means that people that want to pursue this route should financially be involved or they could lose that value of how important education is and should be taken seriously. It is easy for anyone that gets free education to take it for granted and treat it like and it doesn’t matter if they do well or not, but these types of people believe that its free and as long as their doing it that’s all that counts. This way of thinking is dangerous it can lead to many people becoming lazy instead of …show more content…
These kinds of people usually settle for a full time job and work their way up typically struggling to make ends meet. If college was free this problem could easily be erased, opening new doors that can one day make them financially stable and start a career rather than hanging on to a job that benefits them very little. Also with free college it can make people be more ambitious and take advantage of the opportunity while they can. In addition, another thing to think about is there are very intelligent people in the world that cannot continue higher education and if education was free they could learn and interpret something that could change a part of the world like the cure for
While most people want college to be free, the U.S. should not make tuition free for all citizens. There are a number of reasons like taxing families who already have it hard, quality in education, rationing, and if people see that they do not have to pay it may lower the value in which they won 't take school seriously. Tuition free college is impossible because at the end of the day someone will have to pay for all those students attending. For example, “In college I was invested, I was paying,” The former student said, “Once it entails a cost, it’s not easy to just say, Oh, let’s not go to class today. You’re just hurting yourself” (qtd, in Make College Affordable, but Not Free). Student who barely made it
First and foremost, Trade Schools, Colleges and Universities states, “After all, more and more of today's jobs are knowledge-based or require advanced technical skills. So a better-educated workforce would help fill many of the skills gaps that prevent America's economy from growing faster.” If more people attended college then there would be more jobs to fill in America’s economy. There have been droughts in America’s economy, but with free college tuition, droughts would decrease. It would not be fair that someone who could be successful at the job would not be granted the ability to get the job because they don’t have a piece of paper with a signature on it compared to someone who does average or mediocre at the job and had the opportunity to go to college. Making college free also comes with consequences. So graduation numbers might drop, or the people who do graduate might not be as well prepared for the workforce. Also, with more people choosing to attend public colleges because of their tuition-free status, many schools might have to create wait lists or expand the ones they already have. State budgets could become strained, which might lead to cuts and decreased access to the programs that students want to take. Here is the weakness, although it benefits many students, the nation's existing
to College tuition some graduated scholars are stuck with debt and because of that problem they become depressed. If we were able to make college free to everyone that could lower the rates of students stuck with debt in The United States. Another problem we could fix with Making college free is with Students who can't afford college and take the time off school work to look for jobs.If This problem gets fixed students would actually be studying rather than looking for jobs to afford tuition.
As people attend college, fees build up and students loan money and possibly be in debt. Not only that, some may say college isn’t worth it, but it is. Getting a degree pays off at the end, going towards your career path, making twice as much as you would work at a regular job. Students who have received a degree are slowly declining. To make adjustments, college should be free for everyone.
Students who they themselves attend community college pondered on the idea of their tuition being free; one particular student Felipe Bezerra, from the article “As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama’s Free Community College Idea,” stated that the tuition of community colleges isn’t worth being free, financially needy students get the money they need and the other students barely even have to pay $2,000 every year. Students like Bezerra are more concerned about their education following community college, he knows he won’t be able to pay for tuition in university and would rather “all this
There is no doubt that college is expensive, price tags for some universities go over a quarter of a million for just a bachelors degree! (That’s if you graduate in four too). The extravagant price for college is no doubt crazy. Trying to better yourself and your future shouldn’t cost $250,000 plus. If public universities were to be free a plethora of problems could be solved instantly. According to Forbes the National student loan debt has surpassed 1.2 trillion dollars (Denhart )! This number is growing exponentially as more students enroll in to college. Why question then whether college should be free? Well, this number is the total amount of student loan debt from all students that have exited college. Some of these students are freshly graduated while some are aged with the wisdom trying to pay their loans back. If public universities were to be free and funded by our federal government, our government would pay this amount within ten years. Relatively a short amount of time considering that the student loan debt is an accumulation debt from students that have graduated more than ten year ago, also this also greatly increase with the following years as well.
No matter what age or where people are in their life, they would be able to go back to school to start or finish their higher education and fulfill what they have always wanted to do. An article “Why Free College is Necessary” Tressie McMillan Cottom presents the need for free college in the U.S. According to Cottom, “Why aren’t more people going to college? One obvious answer would be cost, especially the cost of tuition” (Cottom/115). Cottom states that basically the main reason why many people are not going to college is because of cost, plain and simple. The job opportunities people would be able to acquire would grow immensely for them, instead of being stuck at a certain job making ends meet. I have come across old friends that never considered going to college after high school because they simply could not afford to go college or even pay for a book. Tuition free colleges nationwide would help many people struggling with their jobs, bills etc. and give them motivation to want to do something better in their life by extending their education, creating new career
Have you ever wondered what would happen to society if all the colleges became free to attend? Lots of people in the world agree that college should be free, however, I disagree. I don't think college should be free because people could easily take advantage of having free colege, it would be harder to keep the college open, and lastly, workers would get payed less, therefore taxes in the community would rise.
A college education is necessary today in society. Students can focus on their academics and try to get a high score. The cost of education for each student has become more difficult to afford. Thus, many students and teachers wonder if free college tuition must be granted. Free education must be responsible and funded by the U.S. government because it will help students focus on their studies, and encourage them to work harder in school. Even thought many people think that education must be free, it is very important for many reasons such as the economy, quality of education, and value of a college degree.
Free college in the United States is an unrealistic dream that cannot and should not be implemented. Free college has been implemented in other countries; however the United States’ education system will not properly function as well due to several reasons. In other countries around the globe, higher education has been largely free for those who meet the admission standards. The U.S. already provides free secondary education for all students However, this free system of education does not properly prepare students for college.
Clearly, the merits of having free higher education outweigh the drawbacks in immeasurable ways, benefiting the individual learners, states, and the nation at large. Having education in higher education free to all would ensure that every citizen get an equal opportunity in life regardless of their social status, it would allow people to concentrate on nation-building rather than loan payment after school, it would make the nation skill-sufficient and all citizens be more productive. Most importantly, education is a basic right that everyone deserves and money should not be a hindrance, thus, education should be free for all.
Free higher education has been seen successfully in places such as Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Germany to name a few. Most see this as a positive example to show if they can do it, than why can’t we. Germany is seemingly proof that free higher education can be accomplished easily by means of protest and by participation in politics (Wiener). This is definitely not the case here in America. The reason why that education system would work is because these countries are all vastly different from the U.S. According to the article “Free College in Europe isn’t Really Free,” the U.S. has an enrollment rate of 94% while Germany and other European countries are at about 62% enrollment (Jackson). With a much smaller country than us, they also have a significantly smaller amount of people attending college. Our country is simply much too large and populated to be able to achieve that. These countries also pay much more in taxes than we do. Therefore, free higher education is an unrealistic expectation for such a vast country as
Yes, I strongly believe that college education should be free for everyone because Education is a basic necessity of our society these days. Free education wouldn’t just benefit one generation or one society but it can benefit the whole nation. If a nation is educated, then it can benefit the whole country and it can get better job opportunities for its citizens because in today’s world we can see highly paid jobs are knowledge based or require advanced technical skills. So in my opinion more educated nation would help remove all those flaws which are keeping country’s economy from growing rapidly. If the education is free in college then it can help a lot of those students who got good grades in their high schools but could not get into the college because of their financial situation. This way these kind of needy students who deserves to get a good degree and basically these students are future of America but they could not get it through
To give people more employment opportunities, colleges should offer free tuition. A free tuition could be a benefit for students and graduates can make more money. To get all of the benefits and to fulfill people’s needs, people should be educated. All colleges give free tuition for the students who are looking for college but can’t afford college tuition. Having free tuition at many colleges is a benefit to students.
Fees and loans are too big of a load for young people to carry. A lot of students drop out do to the pressure of having to worry about all the loans they have to pay back after they are done with college. This should not be an issue to the student. According Iatham Emmmons, “Even worse, a large portion of students never receive funding at all due to the multitude of stipulations that must be adhered to in order to qualify for assistance. A major flaw in the current federal educational assistance programs is that the students’ parents’ income is used to calculate financial need” (Emmons 3). Even citizens who try to get help by applying for funding never end up getting it because they do not meet the needs required for the funding. Education should be p...
