It’s hard to fathom that people of all ages die from lung cancer, yet never smoke a single cigarette in their life yet die of this dreadful disease. Do you recall the last time you went to a restaurant and the hostess asked if you wanted to be seated in the smoking or non-smoking section? If so, that has been some time ago because as of July 1, 2006, the Colorado Clean Indoor Act went into effect banning the right to smoke in a restaurant and/or any other public building. In 1970, 40% of the American population smoked cigarettes or another form of tobacco product. Today, there are nearly 46 million people who smoke which are approximately 20% of the American population, and each year, smoking will kill roughly 443,000 of those smokers. …show more content…

A key ingredient in cigarettes is nicotine and can alter ones mood in a matter of seconds, making one feel energized for a while, and then seconds later have felt tired making them crave additional nicotine. Despite the mood alteration, nicotine causes damage to the entire cardiovascular system when it enters the person’s blood stream it gives their blood sugar an extra boost, causing the blood vessels to tighten. On the other hand, the more noticeable damage caused from nicotine is in the integumentary system, causing compromise to the skin and its appendages. In fact, smoking can cause a person’s fingernail to turn yellow, cause the skin to become wrinkled, and cause teeth to develop yellow or brown stains. Surprising enough, numerous smokers took up using electric cigarettes as they wanted to help preserve the earth. Unfortunately, those factories making electric cigarettes released air pollution which again causes harm to the earth’s natural environment. In addition, smokers who utilize electric cigarettes are still adding, acetic acid, acetone, isoprene, formaldehyde, and acetaldehyde to the earth’s environment. However, the good of utilizing electric cigarettes versus regular cigarettes outweighs the bad. Since electric cigarettes are a fairly new tobacco product, consumers are learning about the impact this creation can make on the environment. Furthermore, electric cigarettes can actually cause more harm to the earth’s environment when they improperly dispose of cartomizers and batteries which are utilized to operate the electric
