A social problem is a condition in our society that at least some people view as being negative or unwanted. Most everyone would agree about some social problems, such as high murder rates in area, while other social problems may be viewed as a social problem by a certain group of people in a community. A great example of this is sexism. I will discuss with you what exactly what sexism is, how I have personally and others have been affected by sexism and I also will summarize an article that highlights the seriousness of the problem.
Sexism is defined by the Webster dictionary as “prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex.” Men are commonly seen as better faster and stronger. Like most social …show more content…

Sexism can be seen in the workplace, as it has been statistically proven that men receive promotions pay raises and greater responsibilities nearly twice as fast as women do. Another way sexism can be seen is in education and sports.
I began wrestling my sophomore year of high school, due to personal reasons my family and I had to move to Austin Texas. My new high school where I’d be a junior was fairly new, around 5 years old, and had never had a girl on there wrestling team.
