Most of the time people cannot comprehend why people that work in the forensic department are sometimes overwrought with anxiety when they have a serial killer case brought into their lab. These forensic scientists have these feelings due to knowing that this could potentially help advance technology. Over the years, serial killers have unpremeditatedly helped further advance the criminal investigation process by unintentionally leaving things behind for a forensics team to analyze. When the team finally solves these cases, it continually propels things such as DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) analysis, finger print techniques, and not to mention the investigation process itself. Countless serial killers have had an abnormal childhood; many people believe this is where the catalyst of events starts. It is proven, that more often than not, serial killers have either lived in an inhabitable home, had lackadaisical parents, or could have a different frame of mind. This being said, when one hears about mass murderers or serial killers, the first question that pops into a person’s head is, “What were they thinking?” For all a person knows, this could be the killer’s normalcy. The notorious killers, such as, Albert Fish and John Wayne Gacy, Jr. both came from broken homes. “Fish was five years old when his father died, and his mother placed him in an orphanage while she worked to support herself. Records also describe young Fish as a problem child who ‘ran away every Saturday,’ persistently wetting the bed until his 11th year” (Newton 76-77). In his case it was undoubtedly noticeable that there was an issue, yet his caretakers were not mindful of these issues. However, not all cases are the same. For example, Gacy’s father, John Gacy, Sr.,... ... middle of paper ... ... time a suspect is not sure what exactly is happening. In conclusion, there are many other things in the world that help contribute to advancing technology that no one really puts any thought into. Yet, it affects so many people in the world; one would think that we would pay more attention to details like this. Fortunately we have forensic sicents all over the United States who devote their careers and lives to help us with numerous things. Such as finding lost kids, solve cold cases, and even catching serial killers and rapist; just to name a few. We can all agree that serial killers are unpredictable scary people but when it comes to why they kill, everyone has a different view. In my research paper I will get into the mind of a serial killer and try to figure out what exactly sets them into uncontrollable rage.

John Wayne Gacy, also known as the Killer Clown, is an infamous serial killer in American history. He was able to fool those around him into believing that he was a good, community loving man, when in fact, he had 25 decomposing bodies in his crawlspace. This man was the epitome of the worst kind of criminal to ever exist, a person who tortures and kills others with no sign of remorse and then later taunts the victim’s family and society. At the beginning of his life, Gacy did have problems with his paternal side of his family; however, as he continued through life, he had more clashes with law enforcement because of his personality and behaviors.
Mass Murderers and Serial Killers are nothing new to today’s society. These vicious killers are all violent, brutal monsters and have an abnormal urge to kill. What gives people these urges to kill? What motivates them to keep killing? Do these killers get satisfaction from killing? Is there a difference between mass murderers and serial killers or are they the same. How do they choose their victims and what are some of their characteristics? These questions and many more are reasons why I was eager to write my paper on mass murderers and serial killers. However, the most interesting and sought after questions are the ones that have always been controversial. One example is; what goes on inside the mind of a killer? In this paper I will try to develop a better understanding of these driven killers and their motives.

Forensic science has changed dramatically over the years in a number of different ways, both positive and negative; new discoveries have altered the ways in which scientific experiments are carried out; how evidence is collected from a crime scene and overall how a criminal is caught as a result of the findings and conclusions made by forensic scientists. Crime has existed for millions of years; however the way in which a crime is detected hasn’t been around for the same length of time. Forensic science has gone through many changes for the better and has become a lot more accurate and reliable since it was first established. The arrival of modern forensic science made apprehending the criminal a lot faster and a lot simpler. The police records are full of anonymous corpses that have been so badly mutilated that they are unable to be recognised by the human eye. This gives forensic scientists a very difficult job; it requires precise medical expertise in order to identify that person and figure out what happened. The

Serial killers have captivated the attention of scientists from the first signs of their existence to modern day. Interested by these killers’ inhumane actions, researchers set out to determine the cause of such graphic, horrific crimes. The brain has been brought into question regarding the motivation of these cold blooded killers. After extensive research, abnormalities of both the chemical composition and material makeup have been identified within the brains of numerous serial killers. These differences are more than mere coincidence, they are evidence that killers do not think in the same way. The killers’ drives and motives are irregular, just as their brains are. Not only are these variations interesting, but they are also crucial to the justice system in regards to the punishment of past, future, and present sequential murderers. It is important that as a society we learn the differences in the mind of a killer, and also recognize and understand them. A serial killer’s brain greatly differs in function from the average citizen’s brain due to physical variations in the brain and a different chemical makeup.

...s an essential part to solving crimes. We are fortunate to live in an exciting day and age where education, and technology, and society is rapidly evolving and changing. Thanks to that, the future for forensics is looking up and although, as mentioned earlier the media exaggerates forensics, it is striking interest in a lot more people. The public is hungry for information about our legal system, particularly in forensics. As long as The National Institute of Justice, and other organizations continue to fund and support forensic science, we will be able to improve our justice system significantly. We also wouldn’t be where we are today with forensics if it wasn’t for people like Locard, who devoted their time and energy into this field of work. As much as we may overlook it, forensic science is important in our society and it can help us understand more about crime.
