If one believes that destiny can bring to people together and are a hopeless romantic, then the film Serendipity is a must see. The movie was release on October 5, 2001, directed by, Peter Onelsom, and written by Marc Klein. In it stared such talent as, John Cusack (Jonathan), Kate Beckinsale (Sara) and Jeremy Piven (Dean). (imdb) Serendipity is around two strangers whom had a brief chance encounter. Destiny seems to step in and keeps Sara and Jonathan, apart until they can see the signs. Hence, the meaning of Serendipity, which is when someone finds something that, was not expecting to find, an unfortunate accident. What a wonderful romantic comedy of two individuals that captivates the viewer, as they fall in love, signs leading them to their ultimate destiny, with a passionate fairytale ending.
The viewer is first captivated by these two individuals, during a chance encounter at Bloomingdale’s department store over Christmastime; from there it was love, at first sight. In addition, you have this handsome sexy leading man in John Cusack who plays Jonathan, in this film, he achieves what he does the unsurpassed as being a hopeless romantic. As for the leading lady Sara, you have a newcomer to the American screen; Kate Bekinsale was perfect for the part. Regarding, her performance she was suburb as a firm believer in fate, and how density decides what happens to us in our lives. With this she, felt that either the universe can bring things together or they could keep you apart. Therefore, she believes that the cosmos will give them signs, when it is the right time. What a wonderful romantic comedy of two individuals that captivates the viewer, as they fall in love, signs leading them to their ultimate destiny, with a passionate fairytale ending. I would recommend this movie to anyone that is a hopeless romantic in body and spirit. This romantic comedy hits all three criteria for this genre; you have the main couple that falls in love by chance with magical events surrounding them, to this romantic fairytale of an ending.

Braff himself has a warm, easy-to-watch screen presence. He can say nothing during the lull in a conversation, while the camera remains focused on his face, and it feels right. Portman and Sarsgaard are also genuine, each wonderfully relaxed in their roles. Production design is superb: details in every scene are arranged well, and the photography, by Lawrence Sher, is - like the story and the acting – unpretentious, never distracting, tricky or cute. This film never seems to manipulate us; instead it engages us, arouses our curiosity and amusement, bids us gently to care about Andrew and Sam and even Mark, leaving us entertained in the best sense. This film also shows that people of different backgrounds can too be in love. This movie illustrates that even though there are differences between two people, doesn’t mean they cannot be together. In the world today, people of all different types are falling in love. This used to be unheard of, but is now becoming a way of life. I feel that this movie did a wonderful job of showing many aspects of love and the difficulties that people may come upon.

After watching it several times, I can say that really the film makes me feel sadness and that Ray and Desnos are trying to say that love can’t be trusted. The man seems as if he is in love with the woman and the woman in liking to the man, but when he leaves she can’t put up with it and moves on. I don’t question that love is really like this, but is that how people women? Are woman so fixated on the idea of having a man in their lives instead of actually falling in love with someone? Or are people of the opposite sex looked at as just another object in the world, beautiful and disposable at the same time?

The film we watched was When Harry met Sally. It was a typical romantic comedy but it showed a different side. Most movies it 's always about the guy and girl falling in love with each other. With this it wasn 't the initial idea. It just showed how friends can eventually fall in love with each other when they are of opposite sex. I didn 't think the movie was going to go fully through with almost all the stages of Mark Knapp’s relational development but it did.
In conclusion, I liked this movie because it showed women of very different backgrounds coming together, accepting each other, and becoming close friends during a crisis moment. In reality of today’s society, I saw that women are jealous against each other instead of working together. This movie shows the joy of overcoming differences and forming bonds with diverse women. In a very simple term, the director reminds us of the unique book of life that we each have. The other message is how the older are separate from society, because of their limitations and age. The older ladies in this movie shows us and other older people how to bloom again, and relive. In this movie they share their life, their tales, and their lessons from the past with us to change our typical mentality about older people.
...the story. It gives us no insight on why the characters were put in this position and why they would even end up being together if they know there will be no happy end. I don’t think it is a movie about love, just a slice of the lives of the two as it happens during that period. Ben is an alcoholic and because of the amount he is drinking, he can not be fully aware of his actions and decisions about what is going on around him. Sera is just a prostitute that loves having control over her clients and has gone through a lot of abuse and out of desperation takes in any guy that treats her humanely. In return for Ben’s loving, Sera slips in the role of the prostitute at the end when she pours liquor over her breasts and lets Ben lick it off fulfilling his greatest fantasy. The story is very slow at times and is not suitable for every audience. For some, it may be too vulgar, for others just too boring, but I believe Figgis and both actors did remarkable jobs. The story is obviously not meant to entertain or to be the typical Hollywood romance drama, but to show Sera and Ben’s relationship leading to isolation, anxiety and self-destruction because life does not always have a happy end.
Since the time of Aristotle, romantic comedies have sought to tell a story about two people, and questions whether or not they would end up together as Billy Mernit (author of Writing the Romantic Comedy)informs. They also make us question what it means to be in a relationship and tell us a little about ourselves. The romantic comedies were extremely popular with moviegoers during its Golden Age of the 1930’s as Daniel M. Kimmel (author of I’ll Have What She’s Having: Behind the Scenes of the Great Romantic Comedies) informs us. The good romantic comedies of this time were referred to as “weepies” or “three hanky pictures (Kimmel). Over time, though, the romantic comedies dwindled to the point where nowadays the romantic comedies seem to be dead (Mernit). Today, the romantic comedy is alive and well, but it goes unrecognized due to it adapting. The appearance of the romantic comedy may have changed, but the key elements have not changed. The key elements of any romantic comedy include two characters who will meet and fall in love with each other, a conflict that will tear the two of them apart, and an ending where love has changed the main characters and they will either accept or deny love such as the events of Philadelphia Story.
Predictably, events spin out of control as Bruce is overwhelmed by prayers (received in the form of e-mails), and he manages to lose the only woman who had ever truly cared for him. It’s easy to wonder what caring and compassionate Jane sees in the somewhat narcissistic and negative Bruce, but Jennifer Aniston pulls off the role beautifully, with an ease that assures her movie career will continue to thrive. Of course, Carrey provides the life force of the movie, and it is his inimitable physical humor and impeccable comedic timing which save a script bordering on cheesy and overdone.

These are the kind of fairy tales that need to be told so that women do not feel the need to be weak and dependent on other people. If fairy tales slowly become more realistic then I think they are a good thing but teaching women to not be strong or if their not a size 0 and gorgeous, well that in my eyes is not okay.
The characters were very well written. Maya is not your stereotypical femme fatale, and really drives the story with her determination. Jessica Chastain wore no makeup a majority of the movie and kept her hair unkempt in order to show how little sleep and how dedicated her character Maya was to her job. The growth of her character was very subtle, however it was difficult to tell what separated Maya from her colleagues. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this rather old fashioned romance is how funny it actually is, while still maintaining a sense of subtlety throughout. This is not a story driven plot, but rather, a collection of charming and amusing moments that, when added up for the duration, becomes something quite substantial. The character development involved is flawless, as we grow to like, and in some senses love, the main players, thanks in large part to the terrific Academy Award winning screenplay by Dalton Trumbo here credited as Ian McLellan Hunter due to a blacklisting that forced him to write under a pseudonym.
