I would like to start this self-evaluation by first giving a simple definition of supervision. I found two definitions that I feel describe supervision in a way that helps me to keep some important goals in mind. First, according to Brashears (1995) supervision is an opportunity for the supervisor to use this unique relationship as a process to enable other social workers to practice to the best of their abilities. The second definition I found was from Tsui (2005). which states that supervision is used to ensure clients receive maximum services, limit inappropriate staff responses to clients, enables workers to deliver more effective care, address concerns, receive feedback, maintain standards, review interventions, provide critical analysis, and maintain standards of professional performance. Using these two definitions as a foundation of self analysis I will now look more deeply into the type of supervisor I would like to be. Three major roles of the supervisor are: (1) Administrative role; which focuses on the correct, effective, and appropriate implementation of policy and regulations. (Tsui, 2005) This role also deals with management aspects of the agency resources, and operations. (Brashears, 1995.) (2)The supportive role; which enhance the job satisfaction and morale of the supervisee. (Tsui, 2005) The supportive role includes being a mentor and a consultant to the supervisee by helping them come to decisions about treatment.( Haynes, Corey,& Molton, 2003). (3) The educational role; which teaches the supervisee necessary values, knowledge, and skills to complete the job. Brashears (1995) goes on to say that Social work supervisors have the same skills as the social worker. I feel it maybe necessary to do some counseling in the sense of preventing burnout and providing coping techniques. I realize that although counseling may be necessary in some aspects, it should never be the focus of supervision and should only be used when it relates to the supervisee’s ability to do their job and treat clients. In conclusion, although I have had some experience supervising undergraduate social work, education, and psychology students I have learned a lot from these articles and look forward to utilizing some of the tasks, tips, techniques, and methods I discovered while researching this paper. I have also learned new vocabulary for techniques I had been using with out realizing it was an actual technique. I realized I have many skills I still need to work on and now recognize my areas of strength and weakness.
I have been a supervisor over the years and have gained some experience however I may not be aware of most of the things that are important to the supervisee who needs to learn a lot for me in the clinical setting. Therefore my disposition should be that of a humble supervisor to allow them reach me with their problems and answer some of their questions. I need to give the supervisee the opportunity to teach me as well. Although I was not new in the field of mental health, my work with Susan brought excitement and insecurities. An extreme hoarding case was completely new to me. Even more challenging was, that Susan mental illness and past trauma affected her daily. The use of supervision serves three functions: its educational, supportive, and administrative (Supervision and Clinical Social Work, 2003). I was grateful to have a well-educated, patient supervisor who gave me constructive criticisms as well as support which encourage my growth and development as therapeutic case worker.
It was very gratifying for me to help and change the lives of these students. With my personal experiences, my passion for caring for these extraordinary individuals grew stronger. My purpose and vision in life are working with children, especially the mentally challenged; to get the help and support, they require to face the difficulties of life. Social Workers are very important to everyday life. They are the ones that help people in need when they have nobody else to turn too. Also, they provide resources and better understanding of predicaments that you could be experiencing. I will reflect on how the class has affected me, my own experiences and how some theories have connected to my life experiences, and lastly, if the class helped toward my major. This class is important for someone that wants to become a social worker and wants to learn about the different theories used. Also, learning about me during this process of completing this class is fun and a way to see if the social work profession is right for me. There was many theories explained throughout this class but many will not be said because it wasn’t the main points that I was trying to get across. There are two tools that are used that can help a social worker organize a client’s life: Bubble map and Briefcase exercise. There are so many different ways a social worker can help a client deal with their problems and come up with a solution. It is up to that social worker to identify the client’s problem and see what theory fits.
Morrison and Wonnacott (2010) state that these aspects are fundamental factors in supervision as they encourage me to be clear about my role, help me to develop my practice and should impact positively on the families that I work with. Research has suggested that quality supervision can lead to job satisfaction, organisational commitment and reduced staff turnover (Carpenter et al, 2012). As now it can be concluded that to make a supervision session effective it is essential to have a deep understanding of these facts and theories. Characteristics of both supervisor and supervisee are equally important. As supervisors must know their roles and responsibilities at the same time, supervisee should have interest towards reflective practice. Maintaining a good supervisory relationship will be useful to analyse the problems. If there are any signs of underperformance seen in the supervisee, the supervisor can approach them to sort out the matter before it causes

Knowing what is triggering, what is stressful, and if the coping techniques are working, are important things to discuss during supervision. Utilizing colleagues within the agency is also a great support system. Even if you are not able to discuss the case, coworkers can still understand and help debrief feelings related to a case.

Supervision could be interpreted from many points of view and have many perceptions about it. Differentiating description from interpretation in observation is so crucial for instructional improvement (Glickman, et al., 2014). Also are different methods that an administrator might use while doing his or her supervision, furthermore, how this information is going to be used to further assistance teachers. As Glickman, et al., (2014) mentions that observations are a method of assessing and planning skills are useful to a supervisor in setting goals and activities for himself or herself as well as for others. Following it will be describe two models, clinical supervision and peer coaching, similes and differences among the models, analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each model, how each model uses assessing and planning skills and each model's contribution to the supervisory process.
From my little experience in the field of social work, I go to understand that giving care is an emotionally demanding work. At the beginning of the school year, the counselors had a scope and sequence they followed with the areas of; transitions, character and diversity, personal safety/wellness, and careers. The scope and sequence is modeled after the WCSCM’s Academic Standards for School Counseling covering the three domains of academic, personal/social, and career development. The standards help answer the question, “How are students different as a result of the school counseling program.” After each description of a lessons plans, was an explanation of each content standard which correlated with the lesson. While at my internships, I assisted with lesson planning and facilitating guidance lessons on careers, transitions or Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), as well as, groups on character development, new student groups, and diversity. The WCSCM is completely embedded in the counseling programs at both of the districts I worked
