Seeking Admission to a University

The ability to overcome obstacles, to navigate through dust, sand, and rough terrain, and to lead brave men, has equipped me with the intestinal fortitude to face challenging circumstances. As an “Operation Iraqi Freedom” combat veteran, I have succeeded in fulfilling my duty to our country; my duty to serve others however, has not ended. All of my life’s work—personal, occupational, and educational—seem to have led me to this point in space and time.
Professional Career Goals:
I have earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences with a 3.65 GPA in my major. Thus, I am positive that I have met the requisite preparation for the rigorous road ahead of me. By way of wisdom, compassion, and integrity, and through the transferable training, skills, and coursework that I have attained over the years, I believe that my accomplishments will suit me well in the pursuit of a Master of Arts degree in Education within the area of Guidance and Student Development at Point Loma Nazarene University. Over the next five years, I plan to give full attention and devotion to my graduate studies and put forth my greatest effort in learning the basic body of subject matter knowledge within the coursework and the fundamental skills within the required practical fieldwork.
My career goals are to become marketable and to secure employment within a community college institution where I may use my newly refined attributes to show exemplary counseling and communication skills, to promote student development and achievement, to ease transitions and counsel students toward their full educational potential, to recognize, appreciate, and serve cultural differences and the special needs of students and families, and to show advoc...

...nue to grow as a Christian, to have fellowship with other believers, and will aid in my career objectives—if the spirit of the Lord shines upon me, I will be able to help others shine as well. Important factors that appeal to me about PLNU are as follows: the university is spiritually centered in Jesus Christ, it has a superior student retention and graduation rate, it has a reputation for excellence in academic preparation, it is responsible in its stewardship of resources, its faculty have proven and effective teaching strategies, it embraces ideas, practices, and relationships that honor ethnic and cultural diversity of those from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, and lastly, the mere fact that the counseling and guidance program is accredited by CTC, NCATE, and WASC is a major plus. I would be honored to be called a graduate student at PLNU!
