Under the Life Coaching cognate is where I got to take the class in Health and Wellness, up until this point I was unclear why God directed me toward Life Coaching. I understand that I wanted to help people and that God drew me to always helping people but I was really unclear in what manner of coaching God was directing me. The secular worldview of health and wellness puts focus on mind, body, and spirit (meaning nature) as pointed out “Wellness is the experience of living life with high levels of awareness, conscious choice, self-acceptance, interconnectedness, love, meaning and purpose,” (Arloski, 2007). What the secular view leaves out is what the biblical worldview incorporates that being the important part of health and wellness is
Utilizing the life coaching helps me to see as a current volunteer what community needs are presently, and what better ways there may be to get the needs of the community met more quickly, so that they can move into a better more fulfilled future. One of the first things I notice when I volunteer is that the people look as if their spirit is broken. Some of these people approach me for different needs whether it be clothing assistance or help with putting food in their carts, I always seem to help them open up, to talk about what their needs are, I often ask them if they would not mind if connected them with a more capable volunteer or supervisor, so that they can get their needs better met. I also find myself always asking questions about passed people that I have come in connect with, hoping that they got the help they needed.
Thus when I move into the career of Community Outreach Coordinator/Specialist, I will be able to connect those that are in need of spiritual, mind or body healing with those that can help them get their needs met. Currently working as a volunteer allows me to see which areas I would improve on within different projects, it allows me to make the network connections through
As a volunteer I do not get to see exactly what it takes to move a project from idea to action. With moving forward with my education I will better understand health policies, ethics, strategies so that I can be the most effective person at my job. Choosing the cognates of Psychology and Life Coaching has provided me with not just a degree option, but with a career path that I feel God has not only lead me, however it gives me the chance to serve God, and my fellow mankind through volunteering my time and talents. I want to be a source of encouragement for my family, friends and for those that are in any need of assistance, and the best way in order to do this is by volunteering ones time and talents, and to help others see what their own God given talents may be, so they too can utilize them to better serve
Gary Collins, a Christian counselor, helps individuals to comprehend their full potential using a God-centered way of coaching. He believes that, through coaching, an individual builds up a vision for their life and a desire for a good future. The book aids coaches to acquire skills that they require to help others, to emerge winners during difficult and challenging moments in their life. The book is also designed to develop Christian coaches’ in questioning, listening and responding. These can help Christian coaches to assess themselves and build up a strategy for their work. Collins rewrote the second edition in order to simplify his coaching methods. The second publication develops his practical skills as a new head in the world that is changing quickly, which includes how to use diverse situations, insights based on the Bible and customized forms among others.
As a non-academic pursuit, I have volunteered at a Vera Davis community family source center for nearly four years. Volunteering at this facility has helped me develop critical thinking skills, as well as social and professional skills. Within this center I have the responsibility to provide free resources to people in need. For example, free food giveaway, distribution of bus tokens, computer services, taxes, and tutoring for children K-12. Throughout my experience at Vera Davis I learned uncountable values and boundaries that transforms socialization to a different level. I enjoy being around people because they make me feel alive, but most importantly because I know that by helping them I am improving as a person. Vera Davis evoked a deep
Some people volunteer to gain career experience, to build their resume. Develop skills or learn new ones. In addition volunteer work enables others to make contacts with people in their chosen career.
Growing up in a society where there are so many opportunities, I had no problem figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. I have always enjoyed helping others in any way that I was able too. From babysitting, raking leaves, serving as a volunteer for a number of organizations, no matter how big or small the need, I have always found it gratifying to help others. I ultimately recognized that I had to pursue a career in something that would allow me to help others, while positively giving back to the community. The heavy influence of wanting to help others comes from my very own personal life experiences, which have greatly impacted my career choices. These experiences include being an adopted child, volunteering within my community, serving as a resident assistant and
Maybe you're out of work. Maybe your kids just left for college. Maybe you just got divorced. No matter the reason, it's perfectly normal to feel a little "lost" whenever you're dealing with major life changes. However, a good life coach can help you come up with a plan to move forward.
I have always been a person that must help, it is difficult for me to sit idle and to do work that is meaningless. I left a safe and secure career in retail when I did not find the meaning the profound affect my work had upon another. A year and a half ago I began that journey to help others through starting my role as a therapeutic staff support. I was able to learn many things, and at the ...
There remains this experience in my mind that I need to write about that actually inspired me in countless behaviors in reference to service and self. I consider relationships concerning those in the helping field and those obtaining aid stands as particularly vital; hence, I believe I must direct focus on this concept. I resolved to enter this discipline because I wanted to give back to those in the community in need. One day I was speaking with a counselor at Centaur who happened to tell me about the significance of connecting to clients, and she expressed to me that I should pay homage to those who accept the “gift” of service because without them, we would not possess the zeal to accomplish authentic behaviors approaching community service. I realized these were true words of wisdom because when I thought about it, I realized my actions were not just about those that I helped but how I helped myself. Thus, in my opinion, these connections were essentially interactions that were in effect a “gift” that could be passed on. I am not just here to help and individual, I am here to create notable connections that would present the motivation to others to also aid those in need and bolster the
Many people rush through their daily life without contemplating their actions, thereby missing vast opportunities for achievement. They waste valuable time engaging in frivolous matters instead of putting their energies towards more productive and meaningful purposes. In the words of the Dalai Lama: “Life is not about acquiring money and other facilities; it is about dedicating your life to helping others as much as you can.” The immeasurable value of helping others has been engrained in me since childhood. As a result of my own difficult family circumstances, I have become more sensitive, kind and mindful towards others and their own situations. I have developed a passion for helping others, which, in combination with a proclivity towards medicine has lead to my descion to become a Physician Assistant. I want to live a life where I can provide healthcare and aid to anyone who needs.
There are countless people who aspire to help people in their lives. However, if you think about it, nearly every career helps others in some way, shape, or form. Teachers, scientists, policemen and various other careers aid people in different ways. I, like many others, have always known that I’ve wanted to help people. Yet, I also want to do more than that. I want to help others, but also save others- emotionally or physically, mentor others, inspire others, and be there for others during their most vulnerable times. This is who I am- and I have always been this person. In first grade, I ran a lemonade stand at my school for the Make-A-Wish Foundation; I got my third grade class to raise money for starving children; and I put up with bullying throughout middle school because I befriended a girl who had trouble making friends on her own. The quality of pure selflessness and care for others that I have always possessed would allow me to do something great with my life- it just took me some time to figure out what.
My community service work at County Hospital is to care for the rudimentary needs of each patient. My goals are to provide inspiration during the healing process, teach kindness and compassion, and discover my own abilities for empathy. "Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I'll try again to tomorrow (Mary Anne Radmacher)." My hope as a volunteer is to help each patient find that voice, find that courage to go forward.
Moreover, a person can connect with people they may have not got the chance to. In particular, people who volunteer are more than likely to encounter areas of a society and career options they would have never thought of being available to them (Vale). Volunteering opens up different doors and opportunities that wouldn’t have been before. Continued, a volunteer can learn knowledge about different career paths and what they entail. For example, volunteers may experience and benefit from gaining knowledge on topics such as health, environment, and women’s issues (Sinha). A volunteer can gain experience of different types of jobs and learn more about different careers from first hand experience. Furthermore, a person met through volunteering may help you get a job in their field. For instance, when you volunteer with someone they get to know a lot about you and can serve as a reference of your character (Greene). Volunteering experiences help connect a person to others that can help connect you to different career paths. Volunteering is not only effective, but it's a good way to meet people and develop social
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
At the beginning of this volunteer experience, I walked in hopeful that I would gain some knowledge about the different careers that the medical field possesses, but I got so much more than that. I learned that community service is about making an impact in the lives of other members who share my community.
Spiritual wellness greatly concerns our connection to God. It involves our attitudes, actions, behaviors, and values. It exists to give purpose and meaning to our lives. It provides the core for all other aspects of wellness. From a Judeo-Christian perspective, spiritual health involves being restored in our relationship with Christ Jesus. This means believing in Him as Savior and accepting His salvation. To take it a step further and be spiritually well, a person needs to live for God every day. One should be continuously submitting themselves to God’s will and living a life like Christ. Spiritual wellness is absolutely essential to our overall health. When a person is spiritually well they can easily define their basic purpose and express the values that they hold dear. The ability to do this contributes to our satisfaction with life. This then leads to our ability to demonstrate spiritual wellness effectively. To exhibit spiritual wellness a person must learn to forgive. When we can give forgiveness to others it provides peace for ...
... better. They realize that people actually care how they look at themselves. They also realize that there is hope and they can change their present and future by allowing outside help. The volunteer then realizes that they too are needed. Without them, not as many lives would be changed and there would not be as big of difference. “There’s nothing more fulfilling than realizing how much of an impact a volunteer can make.” (Cox)
