The Secret to Power

In December 1917 the cheka became the grave diggers of all who opposes the communist party's will during the Russian Revolution. Originally established as a temporary institutions to be abolished once Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks had consolidated their power, they soon acquired powers of summary justice and began a campaign of terror against the propertied classes and enemies of Bolshevism. Although many Bolsheviks viewed the checka with hatred and spoke out against its excesses ("Revelations from the Russian Archive"), Stalin's continued use of the secret police enabled him to control all aspects of Soviet life and was seen as crucial to the survival of the new regime.

Down the steps of the infamous Lubyanka building, located in central Moscow, thousands of people were brought to their death in the seller by the organization that efficiently and relentlessly advance the cause of the Communist Party. In conclusion to be able to control all of the Soviet life Stalin use the controlling nature of the secret police. With its many tactics and power plays he was able to rise up and force his way into power. Without the secret police would Stalin. Have been as powerful as he was?
