The Second World War started when Germany invaded Poland. The U.S. entered the war when the Japanese attacked us in Hawaii, at Pearl Harbor, on December 7th, 1941. While this was a devastating time for the entire world…World War II is possibly the one, most important, single event that saved this country. Through this event, the depression ended. More jobs became available. We became a wartime economy as jobs came about with the specific intention of creating war products. These products most likely included guns, tanks, uniforms, and other war related materials. At the same time, the government was also offering contracts to consumer factories, requiring them to create war products. The government also had a land– leasing a program. This program was intended to help our allies, as we would lease ships and other products that they might need to them. At this time, we had so many jobs that we were at almost full employment. We were also big on building ships. We had an armada for the sea, and one for the air. At the same time, we had a well-equipped Army for the land. It was safe to say, that we were serious about this war. (p.302)
African Americans, and Mexican Americans were finding new opportunities in their day-to-day lives. They were given jobs and were allowed to work in factories. However, due to the nature of the world war, Japanese Americans were taken from their homes and sent elsewhere. They were placed in internment camps, a prison. These Americans were imprisoned for simply being of Japanese descent. The attack on Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii, scared the president. So, he did what he thought was best for the safety of his country by placing Japanese individuals safely away from everyone else. (www.digitalhistory.uh.edu)

The time of the Great Depression, the time of World War II, and the time of post World War II are probably three of the most significant events in history. As hard as they were, We learned a lot from them. We learn what works in certain situations, we learned what doesn’t work in some situations, but we also learned but some leaders have to step on some toes to get stuff done. The Presidents during these times we’re not necessarily liked. Except, maybe Roosevelt because he was the light of hope in a tunnel of darkness. However, the president after him didn’t hesitate to make people mad in order to begin repairing this nation. It is because of these presidents our nation works the way it does, today.
