The Last Day Of The Year

- In the poem 'The Last Day of the Year,'; Annette Von Droste-Hülshoff uses imagery and references to God to express the coming of the end of the year. The poem, however, seems to reflect the impending freedom of women from a patriarchal society. This poem's imagery and outside references suggest that it is in fact a plea for the end of the suffering of women, and that the coming of their empowerment is near. The three things that I will use to prove this point are how one year represents the time of women's oppression, how she speaks directly to men in the poem, and how she makes divine references to represent the freedom of women....   [tags: essays research papers fc]

I knew once it was time to go to college, it was going to be difficult because no one in my class was attending Slippery Rock. I was in no way, shape or form ready for that to happen. Gap Year After High School

- ... There are many implications of a student who takes a gap year. You hear many people say things about how if a student takes a year off there is no way they will ever go back, or how a year off is simply just a waste of time and you might as well just go ahead to college right away. If a graduate has any desire to make the most of there gap year, then they should not listen to any of the negative stigma that comes with a postgraduate year. Everyone develops and learns in different ways and for one person to say that another way of learning or developing won’t work is wrong....   [tags: High school, Education, College, University]

The 's Last Theorem, By Michael Hutchings

- ... So Wiles, realizing the grandness of the proofing Fermat’s, then resided to more “manageable” tasks. In the following years, Andrew Wiles began studying elliptic curves, donut shaped models in which every point on the graph represented a solution to a certain equation. But, unknown to him at the time, elliptical curves and the proof to Fermat’s last theorem were intrinsically linked. This eventually brought Wiles down the rabbit hole of going back to the lost theorem. Later, both discoveries made by Andrew Wiles as well as those of other scholars make the once impossible task now easily realizable by a motivated Wiles....   [tags: Mathematics, Logic, Theorem, Scientific method]
