Dinner Party with the Presidents

- A dinner party with three individuals from the pre-Civil War era would be both entertaining and extremely informative. Although those who lived in the United States hundreds of years ago have little in common in their day-to-day lives and activities, I believe people who lived through these uncertain times would have much wisdom to lend modern-day Americans. For my dinner party, I would invite Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington. All three of the Presidents I would invite to my dinner party grew up in the South and I imagine they each enjoyed a hearty, rich meal....   [tags: Andrew Jackson, George Washington, Lincoln]

My Dinner Party Paper

- ... I cautiously pull up a chair to the table with the three odd men. I stare at their faces for a moment. One man had a darker complexion and a handlebar moustache. This man was dressed in fine robes, bright purple embellished by ornate floral patterns sewn in gold. He looked to the man across from him. This man held a feather quill in his hand. Very slowly and neatly, he wrote “Akbar, the Great Mughal Emperor”. The writer had dark robes on. He looked down solemnly. Trimalchio's Dinner Party

- Trimalchio hosts’ a farewell dinner which is a dinner given to gladiators who were about to face wild beasts in the arena. Trimalchio is a Semitic name based on the word for “prince” and he is a high living individual. However, a well-born Roman reader would not approve of his attitudes and behavior. You get a good sense of what Trimalchio is like early on in the story when he is in the middle of talking to Menelaus and snaps his fingers for a slave to bring him a pot. When the slave brings the pot to Trimalchio he peed in it, asked for water and then used the slave’s hair to dry his hands....   [tags: Ancient Rome]

- My mother and step-father hosted dinner parties. The young couples of the neighborhood showed up with wine bottles and casseroles in shallow, glass dishes. This would guarantee them a casserole in return, baked in the same dish. A trap, honestly, implemented to continue the cycle of social expectation. Suburban middle America had an etiquette all its own. The doorbell never rang because our mother would be watching for cars through the sheer curtains. The Grand Old Party

- The Republican Party is at risk of losing their legitimacy with the general public. The biggest issue for the party is not only its uncompromising partisan values, but the negative campaigning, platforms and public ideations. Granted, the name Conservative was given to the party for a reason; however, the Republican Party’s alienation of moderates and independents, as well as modern societal values, will not further them in the polls or in “conserving” their principles. What the Grand Old Party (GOP) needs is a broader political perspective and a more positive platform presence....   [tags: negative politics, Republican party]
