It began with a 25-year-old Freddie Gray dying in police custody. “Gray, 25, died of severe neck injuries suffered in the back of a police van. He 'd been shackled and handcuffed, but not secured in a seat belt” (Rector, 2016). After the acquittal, the officers in charge of the arrest and the death of Gray had all charges dropped.
