I remember when I went scuba diving for the first time. It was the summer of 2002. My Dad, his two friends Mark and Bob, and I went on a scuba diving trip to San Carlos, Mexico with a group of scuba divers from June 21st-29th. It was June 22nd, a beautiful day. The temperature was at about 90 degrees and it was very sunny. I was on big nice scuba diving boat along with the other eight divers on the trip and captain and co-captain. The boat was headed to an island about two hours away called "Seal Island"; it was called that because of all the sea lions that inhabit it. When we arrived at the island the captain stopped and anchored the boat. I immediately jumped in the water and started snorkeling while all the other divers were still on the boat putting on their scuba equipment. …show more content…
After about another minute or so the stinging got so bad that I had to get out of the water and back on the boat. When I got on the boat I found that I had welts on every inch of my body that wasn 't covered by my bikini. I had been stung a numerous times by a jellyfish. The captain of the boat, Chuey, a Mexican man who couldn 't speak English poured this liquid substance all over my body, and immediately made all the stinging go away. I knew then that when I got back in the water I would have to wear a wetsuit. A little while later, after I recovered from the jellyfish stings, I put on my wetsuit, weight vest, regulator, BC, tank, fins, and mask, all the equipment essential for scuba diving. I was pretty nervous about going down, so the instructor, a man named Punk Potter (really that 's his name) went over all the steps equalizing, breathing, and reassured me everything is going to be okay and to just

This one morning while we were all on vacation at Panama City beach, we all woke up at the right time. We saw some dolphins passing by our window and it was so awesome. We watched them pass until we couldn’t see them anymore. Since we were all crowed up around each other I figured it would be a good time to tell my family the plans that I have for the day ahead. I told them that I wanted to go to the pool and so we went to our amazing hotel pool. I was too short to stand anywhere other than the 3-foot area, so when I wanted to go anywhere else I could touch the ground. The pool had these amazing water slides but I was too short to ride on them. I could ride on the smaller one, it went so fast!
So we packed up some cloths and water and started on are bike ride. We were riding on a very muddy and rough trail we found a little creek that two or three people were fishing in so we checked it out and the continued are bike ride. A little further up the trail it was really muddy and my dad wrecked and face planted into the mud and again of course I have to get some pictures of that. My dad got all cleaned up and a little further up the trail there was another creek to fish out of so we tried fishing there for a little bit but we didn't catch anything. So we headed back down the trail and went to the other creek to fish and we caught four good size fish. We packed the fish up and headed back to are camp to clean them and cook
It was a bright sunny day and the lake looked like glass, perfect to go water skiing. My dad, brother, and I decided to go get the boat ready for our trip. We had to get the sunscreen, refreshments, and water skis. Once we all got in the boat, we had to untie the ropes that were tied to the boat and the dock and lead the boat out of the dock without it colliding into the dock..
I was one of the first people to jump into my inflatable duckie, but I was one of the last to get on the river. Once I launched into the river I looked all around me to see the shores covered in pointy trees that were trying to impale anyone who dared go near them. Out of nowhere I hit a rock under the waves, but it was too late and I lost all control of my boat and fell face first into the river. After hitting the water I realized really how cold and dark the water was I started to try to swim to the surface, but it felt like I had cinder blocks attached to my feet weighing me down. SPLASH, I got to the surface in time to grab my slippery oar and jumped onto my boat. I was shaking from the cold water, and had a taste of salty muggy water in my mouth, which I was desperately trying to get out. I quickly paddled in my boat to get back to the group so I wouldn’t be left behind. While paddling I was looking all around at the massive evergreen trees standing on the shore as if they were columns of a old building, the sky as a large blue ocean, and the birds chirping as if they were fans in the stadium at a football game. Breaking the tranquility of the moment was one of the people in the group with me yelping as they fell off their boat down a cold two foot drop in the
No one else except for my friend sitting next to me seemed to notice that the raft in front of us was stopped. As we got closer we heard them shouting something, but no one could understand them over the sound of the water clashing against the rocks. We kept approaching, getting closer and closer, and out of nowhere we saw something bobbing up and down in the water – all I could tell was that it was bright orange. It only took a few seconds to realize that it was someone holding onto their life jacket was latched on a rock, and right behind him was a small waterfall that was trying to suck him in. We got closer and I realized that I would be closest to him as we passed, but I would not be able to reach him with my arms. I reached out as far as I could with my paddle, yelling at him to grab it. I was not even the one in the water, and yet it was still one of the scariest moments of my life when he let go of the life jack in order to reach for my paddle. He grabbed it as tightly as he could and my friend next to me helped me pull him in. Everyone else was trying to slow down the raft so that he could get pulled in before we went down the waterfall, and thankfully, due to everyone’s straining effort, we were able to accomplish just that. The look of relief on his face said it all,
We found a safe haven. I don 't remember the name of the place but I do remember that we ended up renting two vacation homes. They were very spacious and about 5 minutes away from the beach. One of the homes had a rustic Mexican style. It had huge windows, with tones of orange and yellow, that brightened the whole house. and the other home was two stories and very modern. The modern home had a black and white interior with a clean aesthetic. I stayed in the rustic house because of its very elegant and unique architecture and decor. When we were there, I remember we cooked carne asada and it was genuinely nice how everyone got together. It made me really appreciate having such an enormous family. After dinner, we went to bed, in order to wake up and start the day early. In the morning, we headed to the beach. The scenery was beautiful, the sky was blue and you could feel the ocean breeze on your skin. Everyone began to get in the water, but to be honest, I was terrified because I always feel like something is going to pull me under water. Terrified I managed to get over my fear and got in the water. The water was freezing cold and gave me goose bumps. After being in the water for a while. I look down and saw a snake looking animal. I screamed and got out as fast as I could. Once I got out of the water, I walked off with my cousin Jael to explore the beach. During our walk, we found a dead seal with a huge gaping hole in it. It was
said, “Every time you dive, you hope you'll see something new - some new species. Sometimes the ocean gives you a gift, sometimes it doesn't.” As you are swimming under the ocean, imagine the sparkle of the water as you look up the surface from a hundred feet below; floating along with the current, slowly and deeply breathing while observing the sea life. Continue to imagine the ability to remain underwater for an hour or more, just swimming and observing the ocean. This is the life of a scuba diver. Many people think of Scuba Diving as a swim in the water, but in reality it is a very dangerous, and potentially fatal sport and activity. There are many types of Scuba
I shucked off my sandals as I ran to the beach right where the waves ended. I asked my dad if I could put just my feet in the water and before I knew it I was neck high in the water.
September 2012, it was the beginning of my second year swimming for Wawasee High School. It was a Saturday practice, which meant that it was going to be an easier one. I remember feeling the funny
We spent the next few days alternating between the beach and the houses of our family to visit everyone before we left. We only had a few more days left to be there! I was a little sad about that, so my Aunt offered to take us on another boat ride before we left. Unfortunately, when we tried to take the boat out, the tide was low, so we got stuck in the sand! We all had to get out of the boat and push it out back into the water, at which point none of us were willing to risk going any further and having it happen again, so we turned around. We were disappointed, but better safe than
This day was the day that made the trip amazing. In a blink of an eye we were 40 feet underwater. On this dive, I saw an even bigger coral reef with even bigger fish that were like the length of a giraffe's neck. But the worse part was when we approached my biggest fear, a shark. I saw it and my eyes got as big as bowling balls. I knew I had to stay calm and so did everyone else around me. While the shark just looked at us and swam the opposite way, it sure did raise my blood pressure. Underwater it was like there was a whole different world down there that I never knew
...mazingly) and we watched the engines start up, with water whirling everywhere below the surface. I ran to the front of the boat to look down into the water and I kept noticing all these little white puffs everywhere. From where I was, they kind of looked like plastic bags floating through the water. I called Kristi and my dad over to see them. As we were watching, these poofy little balls kept appearing out of nowhere, there must have been hundreds. Finally, a really big one floated its way into our line of vision and from the eighth deck we were able to see what they were. Jellyfish! Cute little iridescent balls of cotton.
I was very excited to go swimming and meet other people to hang out with while I was outside. After, I went to my room to get a shower and put on some comfortable clothes I walked to the very front of the boat and the wind was blowing like 60 miles per hour. When I looked once again, I could see this little island with many lights on it and it was called the Bahamas. The Bahamas was very enormous and there were different shops to buy things at. When the boat finally arrived their everyone got off to go explore the island and buy thing, so I decided to look around and I bought different drinks to try. When I got to the edge there was very blue amazing glimmery water reflecting to me it was so cool to see kids playing and swimming in the water and on the
