Cardiovascular agents are used to treat the heart, circulatory, and vascular system. Each Sub-Class has a unique active ingredient that targets the issues that our body cannot fight with alone. Patients who have one or more cardiovascular conditions such as CHF, hypertension and an arrhythmia may be taking multiple medications for each condition. There are multiple subclasses that I will be discussing. Even though they all are used for the cardiovascular system, they do target different areas.
Working in the pharmaceutical industry, there are different types of environments you could possibly work in. There are chain pharmacies, like any kind of grocery store or CVS. There are franchise pharmacies, which are also known as apothecaries. Also, there are community pharmacies, which are also known as retail pharmacies. Some of them are independent pharmacies, which is usually owned by a pharmacist or a group of pharmacists.. There are hospital pharmacies, in which are in the hospital. There are many more different types, these are only a few.
Thomas Gryta defines Pharmacy Benefit Managers as companies who “process prescriptions for the groups that pay for drugs, usually insurance companies or corporations, and use their size to negotiate with drug makers and pharmacies.” (2011) Pharmacy Benefit Managers serve as liaison between the paying companies and the health care system’s variables. Their revenue comes from service fees of processing prescriptions, managing mail-order pharmacies, and negotiating reduced costs with drug companies.
The compounding lab technicians will assist with compounding of ingredients, sterilizing of tools and equipment, entering/retrieving data with the computer, categorizing, calculating and analyzing the data, as well as assisting with customer service. Customers who chose to enter the pharmacy will enter at the front of the store and will be greeted by the store assistant. The assistant will greet each customer with a smile and make an offer to look at any herbal, mineral or store special offers. Pharmacists work in clean, well-lighted, and well-ventilated areas. They work with dangerous materials and sterile pharmaceutical products, which require them to wear gloves and masks. Many full time, salaried pharmacists work at least about forty hours per week. The importance of the becoming a pharmacist should not be about what the career can give a person in monetary value or the amount of accolades one receives. Instead, the career should be about saving and improving human lives and serving the public. Pharmacists keep people healthy, make them feel better, and try to help the public live longer and happier lives as long as possible. From small infant children to the elderly, everyone needs pharmaceutical care. Sometimes it can be a matter of life and death if medication is not available to the public. Pharmacy as a career would be a wise decision if a person could withstand the amount of education the profession entails.
I pleased to apply to the PharmD program as the program is one area that corresponds to my career dreams. Being part of this program gives one the opportunity to gain an excellent experience in working and collaborating with various health care providers in the ward. Although, it could be argued that during some seasons there is more of a demand for prescription drugs to be given out because it might be a “sick season”. Therefore, this would cause a “peak” period. Most pharmacists generally work 40 hours a week. As with all professions though there are pharmacists, around 12%, that work more than 50 hours per week (Pharmacists - What They Do). Being a pharmacist requires a fairly decent amount of well tuned motor skills. This is simply because a pharmacist with shaky hands can overprescribe someone due to maybe giving more than the intended amount. A career as a clinical pharmacist seems to be the goal was working up to my entire life, even before I knew what it was. As a child I found myself fascinated by what made people sick and how to make them feel better. This interest only continued to grow through my education, culminating in my decision to attend pharmacy school upon reaching adulthood.
Students are recruited from the schools of pharmacy via short advertisement displayed as a Power Point during a required class for first-year and second-year students. Interested students will be required to submit a resume along with the personal statement to the internship program director. Pharmacy students who express their interest in research pharmacy will be invited for an interview with the program director. Students who are self-motivated and possess great communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills will be offered a position of an intern. The goal is to recruit one student from year one pharmacy class per year. I feel that I fit many qualities of pharmacists, including an attention to detail, communication skills, and science and mathematic skills. I have also been a perfectionist, paying attention to each detail of my work. This is what helped me stay organized throughout high school, and earn a 4.021 cumulative GPA. Pharmacists must be detail-orientated to ensure their patients receive the right dosage, amount, and type of medication. An error in this could harm the patient, therefore breaking the Hippocratic oath. Next, I have earned strong customer service and communication skills from my job at Fareway Food Stores. Since I earned this job in May 2012, I have made it one of my goals to assist and brighten the day of my customers. As a pharmacist, I would need strong communication skills with my patients to fit them with the best prescription possible. Additionally, I would counsel them on the directions of their mediation, any potential side affects, and how to add new medications into their lifestyle with the least amount of stress.
