In 2012, President Obama made US History when he told ABC News, “I’ve just concluded that for me, personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married." (www.abc.com) This created a lot of controversy in our society. Homosexuals are inspiring to others that aren’t gay because of insecurity about their bodies, how they appreciate the love of having a child to care for, and how they show themselves as being just as human as others. A lot of people don 't support same-sex marriage because of religious beliefs or they just think it 's disgusting and are too ignorant to see that just because someone is homosexual they shouldn 't deserve to be as happy as anyone else. They get married for the same reasons a heterosexual couples do “to make a public promise of love, responsibility and lifetime commitment.” (www.oregonunitedformarriage.org) It 's not fair to tell someone they can 't marry the person they love just because of the gender they are. We are all people, we need to be able to love who we want. I have a friend who is gay and he told me stories of what people have told him in public “you’re disgusting” “when you die the Lord will judge and you will go to hell” “you 're a disgrace to people.” He says he doesn 't care what they tell him because he knows those people aren 't the ones he has to argue with for his …show more content…
Therefore, if you don 't allow certain people the same rights that are given to a heterosexual couple, you ate discriminating the same way interracial marriage was until 1967 when an African American woman and a white man took their case to the Supreme Court. Martin Luther King Jr. fought for equality in the mid 1950’s until his assassination in 1968. Now homosexuals are doing the same thing for same-sex marriage. There 's actually a lot of murders that have happened towards homosexuals because of “homophobia”. In Russia, a man was beaten to death by his supposed friends after he told them he was a homosexual, they “reportedly decided to taunt him by making him walk home naked and began ripping off his clothes.” and he was also “raped with beer bottles and severely beaten,” But they didn 't stop there “After the brutal assault the suspects reportedly left, but later returned after realizing that the victim would call the police when he regained consciousness.” (rt.com) It makes me sick that people would do such thing to a human being who just wanted to be honest. I understand not being supportive of someone, but killing them because of what they chose to be? That 's ridiculous and inhumane. No one should have to be afraid to “come out of the closet” as some call
President George Bush strongly opposed gay marriage along with most of America 's past and present legislators and politicians. For instance, Minnesota state senator Paul Koering openly came out the closet and admitted being gay when in the past he had voted against the attempted marriage amendments for gays to be legal to unify. Today, more than 35 states have legalized gay marriage. Homosexuals are adopting children because they cannot have one. They take children who were once starving and living in the streets, or abandoned, and take good care of them. I 'd rather see a child with a loving gay couple than to see it sleeping in the street with nowhere to go. Government officials in both state and national offices oppose these laws because if they allow same-sex marriage to occur, they will lose large amounts of votes and supporters will be appalled. The future looks grim for gay marriage with the conservative republicans holding office. Furthermore, legalizing same sex marriage can cause a chain reaction of hostility and violence. Many anti-gay organizations, some resembling the infamous Ku Klux Klan of the 1920’s, will form and be on the doorstep of same-sex couples. This may also perhaps create an international clash and cause other countries to view America more immoral than we already appear which makes gay marriage legalization even more difficult to
This was seen a major victory for gay rights in Canada, and championed by many activists. While this was not the end of the fight, many in the community saw this as the last great fight for rights, but it begged the questions who actually wanted these rights. Not everyone in the gay community wanted to be a part of the so-called “nuclear family” and criticized the idea that they should have to fit within traditional heterosexual norms in order to be considered legitimate (Warner 2002, 218). This leads to a bigger question about the exact nature of rights LGBT activists were fighting for throughout history, and how that affected how they fought.
The issue of gay marriage needs little introduction as it is one of the most widely contended and discussed topics in the United States of America. While the issue is relatively recent one has to question why this is even an issue to begin with. The Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage. Arguments come from both religious groups, as well as secular focused sources. Reasoning against gay marriage ranges from religious immorality, to the idea that giving gays the right to marry would support minoritarianism (giving minority special privileges and advantages in either a legislative or societal capacity). There are countless arguments besides those mentioned, few of which have any substantial grounds to stand on. Gay marriage causes no political or communal grief, except for those who strongly oppose it now. Even for those people gay people exist either way. Whether they are married or not will not change that and their lives will not be dramatically changed from it. Gay marriage has no valid reason to be outlawed and there are plenty of reasons to allow it.
Years before, homosexuality was not accepted in the society. The thought of coming out as lesbian or gay is an alarming thing for homosexuals. Most that were gay hid it from others and did not act upon it. In today’s modern society, there is ample argument concerning the idea of men and women being attracted to anyone other than the opposite sex. Such concepts lead into the topic recognizing the relationship between these people. Because of this, same-sex marriage is quickly becoming one of the most common topics of debate in politics, social media and religion. Luckily, this is the land of the free, and most of us have the legal and social honor to get married. Unluckily, thousands people get left out of this deal for the reason that their partner is the same gender as they are.
How do you feel about gay marriage? Do you think it is right or wrong? Do you agree or disagree with it? Gay marriage is still a controversial topic in today’s society. Some think same sex marriage is right; however, others disagree. People in America have been fighting over same sex marriage for many years. However, same sex marriage is wrong in several ways. One way it is wrong is because there is now a law stating that same sex marriage is legal. Not only is gay marriage wrong, it is not appealing to the eye. Watching gay couples walk around is not a good sight to see. Although society thinks same sex marriage is fair, it is actually immoral and completely wrong.
Everyone should get the right to love who they want to because whether you support it or not, everyone should be able to love freely. It’s sad to say, but it has gotten to the point that people are killing or abusing people of the LGBT community just because they are attracted to someone that is not considered normal. People shouldn’t have to hide the fact that they’re in a committed relationship to be safe from harm's way, people certainly shouldn’t have to live with offensive slurs. People constantly say it’s a phase or that it’s for attention, but
Gay marriage is one of todays most talked about subjects in the news. But for many, including myself, do not see why this barbaric belief and view is still in existence in the twenty-first century. Anybody would think that a perfect law abiding, tax paying citizen of the United States, should have every equal opportunity as any other American. But still there are so many people who are still taught or learned to believe that everyone is not created equal and does not have the same rights as other Americans. Although a majority of Americans believe that the gay community should not have the same rights as any other American, many Americans also believe in equality for everyone for the following reasons: Equality is a simple American right and should not be dictated otherwise
Most people don’t realize what it means to be involved in a “[gay] marriage - it’s not about two people being gay: it’s about two people who love each other and who have decided to commit to each other for the exact same reasons any other couple would get married” (Macfarlane). The topic of gay marriage, and just gay people in general is a touchy one and people have many reasons for accepting or discouraging the way of life. Although some people don’t support gay marriage, it should be accepted by more people because it provides equal rights for gay couples, and offers them the benefits and advantages of a legal marriage.
Same-sex couples have such a callous time being accepted at this time. There is a ginormous community in support of their choices and values, but there remain countless against it as well. They are judged on their lives, their choices, and who they are. They had been constricted with so much that they can do, it took so long for them to even be able to obtain marriage, now trying to adopt and just live happily, while several drag them down and their lifestyles.
Can a person imagine being told that they cannot marry the person that they love most? Or a person being told that they do not have the same rights as most people? All over the world people fight for LGBTQ rights and laws, like same sex marriage. All fifty states and countries around the United States have people fighting for the right to love who they want to love, some cases being stronger than others. Marriage should be a right for any two consenting adults, no matter what their orientation is, **three examples**.
“It is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married” (Procon.org), said Barack Obama the 44th and current president of the United States. The gay right movement started in 1969, riots, struggles, and problems followed after. In today’s society, it has been showed that people are opening up to gay rights. There has been effort in protecting the gays and discrimination against gays is now considered a hate crime and is illegal. However, gay rights still to this day struggle with state and federal legal circumstances. Same- sex marriage needs to be legal, couples who choose to be of the same-sex should be allowed to celebrate their commitment with each other the way heterosexual couples get to, both publicly and society acceptable.
Most of society will say they support equal rights for homosexuals. Ask the same members if they support gay marriage and they become hesitant. Recently the majority of Americans will vote for the Constitutional Amendment, which puts a ban on gay marriage. Ironically, these same Americans do believe in the equal rights to the gay community just like any other heterosexual citizen. In my personal opinion, gay marriage should be globally accepted
The most natural thing for a human being to do is fall in love. So what do we do when we find that person who we can't live without for the rest of our lives? We ask them to marry us. But what happens when the love of your existence just happens to be of the same gender as you? The argument of whether gay marriage should be legalized or not is very controversial. According to an article from the Human Rights Campaign, there is nothing wrong with allowing homosexuals to have the same rights as everyone else. Every individual person should be given the opportunity to have equal rights, no matter what their sexuality. Gay marriage should be legalized in all states and has been postponed for much too long.
In recent years, same-sex marriage has become a more controversial topic on whether it’s right or wrong. People should not feel coerced to agree with something they believe is wrong; clearly, same-sex marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same-sex marriages including financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks.
The recognition of same-sex marriage is a political, social, and religious issue. Because of this same-sex marriage is a very controversial topic. Legal acknowledgement of same sex marriage is commonly referred to as marriage equality. Many advocates of marriage equality argue that laws restricting marriage to only heterosexuals discriminate against homosexuals. On the other hand advocates against same-sex marriage argue that it would undo long-standing traditions and change the meaning of marriage in a damaging manor. In this essay I will be arguing for same-sex marriage. The arguments mentioned as well as others will be discusses throughout this paper.
