Marriage is defined as “the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law” (Merriam-Webster). This is what many people today would see as the normal typical marriage. But many people tend to ignore that there are other types of marriages as well; an example of this would be same sex marriage. Same sex marriage is the union of two people of the same gender and it is only allowed in some jurisdictions. The Bible states explicitly in only two places that it is against God to have sex with someone of the same gender. But other places in the Bible it can be inferred. Through the Biblical versus discussed, it can be seen that same sex marriage is not supported. It was unnatural, impure, and shameful. There are many Bible verses such as Genesis 1:27, Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:27 that discuss how homosexuality goes against God and that God created man and woman in his image to create mankind. But what many people do not understand is that there are sections of the Bible that discuss homosexuality being okay but it is not as bluntly stated as the verses against homosexuality. This is why many believe that the Bible is completely against homosexuality and same-sex marriage, because they do not fully read into many of the stories. Instead many people just look for what is blatantly stated.
