A Saint is a person acknowledged as holy or virtuous and regarded in Christian faith as being in heaven after death. Saints are important to Catholics as they are role models and inspire young people who are a part of God’s Kingdom that have lived as Jesus taught. During their life, they have shown many virtues and have done many good deeds. They all have devoted their life to Christ and have performed many miracles. My Saint is Saint Clare Assisi. She became a saint as she devoted her life to Christ, did many good things for others, especially the poor, and performed many miracles. One of the miracles being, she cured the sick when she made the sign of the cross over them.

Most of Saint Clare’s education took place in the Cathedral, which was her local church, being not far from her home. Even as a child and young woman, Clare was known as being dedicated to prayer, obedient to her parents, and generous and compassionate to the poor. She had heard a young man, St. Francis of Assisi, preaching in the piazzas of Assisi, and as soon as she saw him, she became determined to live the Gospel in a more thorough way. She then went to a nunnery and found the order of Franciscan women, who became known as the “Poor Clares”, or simply “Clares.”

Saint Clare was born on July 16, 1194 in Assisi Italy. Her full name was Chiara Offreduccio and she had two younger sisters, Agnes and Beatrice. She was the foundress of an order now called “Poor Clares” and her feast day is 11th August. She was one of the first follower of Saint Francis and the first woman in Church history to produce a written Rule, approved by the Pope.
