The United States receives more imports from China than any other country. During 2007, U.S. companies recalled millions of products manufactured in China because they pose safety risks. The products included toys, pet food, toothpaste, and tires. There was talk about the United States stopping all imports from China. Although there has been a plethora of recalls on Chinese manufactured products due to safety risks, the United States should not stop importing from China. In 2007, one of the Chinese manufactured products that were recalled was the children's toys. They were recalled because they were said to cause lead poison in the children. The toys contained tainted paint which contained excessive levels of lead. Immediately upon learning about the lead poison, toy companies like Fisher-Price and Mattel recalled millions of their products. Many U.S. children were affected y the lead poison. There were lawsuits being filed. Chinese manufacturers stated that the reason for using the paint was because it was a third of the price of the safe paints. Furthermore, toys were not the only products manufactured in China being recalled in 2007. Also, in March on 2007 there was a huge recall on the pet food manufactured in China. The pet food was contaminated with melamine. Melamine is an organic base and a trimer of cyanamide and a large exposure can cause cancer or reproductive damage. Along with the pet food, toothpaste was recalled also. Diethylene Glycol was found in the toothpaste, which is a constituent of antifreeze. Also, 450,000 tires for pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles, and vans manufactured in China were recalled. Suggestions have been made that the United States continue to import products from China such as clothes, shoes, and handbags, but stop importing the toys, tires, and pet food. Although, there are some that feel that the United States should stop importing Chinese Manufactured products because of safety risks, there is very strong evidence that proves that the United States should not stop. In conclusion, the United States should not importing Chinese Manufactured products because the country would lose money. In fact, the country would end up paying more money for the products if they manufacture them in the Unites States rather than purchasing them from China for a very low price. Also stopping trade from China will increase the country’s debt.
