Santaquin’s Small Business Problem
As I’m driving down main street, I notice that Santaquin is a small and quiet town. The post office is an older building and the bank rests in between some trees. Stone Ridge Plaza is a tall and proud building. As the tallest building in town, standing a total of four stories tall it stands firm saying Look at me see how wonderful I am. Three stories is dedicated to apartments and housing for people. The First floor is meant for business. The only problem is, that so many different businesses have been in and out of that building you never know what 's there but, why does this happen? I believe that it is due to the fact of many different reasons. Some of the reasons are as followes. Imagine this, what if you needed a new

It is also very close, which makes it convenient to go to. It is also very convenient because of the price. Due to the fact that it is a big chain store they have the opportunity to have cheaper prices. The reason that Wal-Mart can do this is because Wal-Mart is an anchor business. According to Mayor Kirk Hunsaker. This is one reason that Santaquin has a small business problem. Santaquin doesn’t have an anchor business. (Mayor Kirt Hunsaker, Personal Communication, February 6, 2016) We just have small businesses that exist together. If we were to have an anchor business, small business could settle in around the anchor store and thrive. I think that one reason that people don’t shop in Santaquin is due to the geological location. If we look to where Santaquin is located on a map of Utah County, it is on the southern end of Utah County. Most of the population is located in northern Utah County. As people travel from southern Utah they might stop in Santaquin for a pit stop. But, they will more likely stop in Nephi for a pit stop. And if people are traveling to southern utah most likely will have got everything they need before they left
Wal-Mart has been praised for providing cheap diverse products close to home, while providing hundreds of jobs. The leading discount retail store got its title by selling its items at a lower cost than other competing stores. Whereas competing grocery store Winn Dixie sells a steak for twenty dollars, Wal-Mart sells it for seventeen dollars. This price difference may not seem like much, but when Wal-Mart’s overall prices average differs from Winn Dixie’s by a few dollars, it begins to add up. Wal-Mart has allowed for low income families to buy products for a reasonable price. Along with its low prices, Wal-Mart has been known to sell wide variety of products. While some stores such as Winn Dixie, Kroger, and Publix only sell food items, Wal-Mart sells food items along with electronics, clothes, and toys.
The quality jobs that come with a Wal-Mart store provide employment and income to the members of the local community. A small retailer is most likely a family run business offering only a few jobs with little upward growth for those employees. In comparison, a single Wal-Mart store may offer around five hundred jobs. While most of the jobs are low wage jobs, Wal-Mart is not much different that other retailers (De Coster and Edmonds 632). However, those jobs at Wal-Mart come with competitive wages and comparable benefit packages to other ret...

Walmart 's prices are hard for small businesses owners to compete with; thus forcing them to close there business. Walmart is now a superior company that 'll do anything to grow and ruin the American dream. Studies have found that Walmart can actually bring poverty into the city. Walmart has a tremendous effect on the community; so some cities try to keep Walmart out.
Wal Mart is a very successful company that offers many products to a variety of people. Most stores will take into account who is purchasing the product, who wants the product,
Chet Craig is the Central Plant Manager of the Norris Company. He started as an expediter in the company's eastern plant and was quickly promoted to Production Supervisor in three years. After two years, he was promoted to Assistant to the Manager of the Eastern Plant. Five years later, Chet was transferred to the central plant as an Assistant, and after one month, was promoted to his current position.
Wal-Mart, sure it provides low prices for the general public, but at what cost? The dignity and safety of their employees? The effects that the store has on the community? The families of the associates that work at the store? The answer is all of the above, Wal-Mart, is and has been a negative effect on the communities that it is established in and shows no effort to unregenerate their desultory practices. In this case it is easily identifiable that the negative effects of having the retail giant in any town outweighs the positive effects. The cost for such a low price is just too high.
Over the years Walmart has developed into a threatening super store jeopardizing local business success and other retail industries. Wal-Mart has not only affected, but diminished the need for small businesses making it harder for people to live and prosper. Other big name retailers like Target, K-Mart, and BJ's strive to be like Wal-Mart, but don't seem to live up to the extremely low prices Wal-Mart has. Other than the competition, independent small businesses have become bankrupt due to the up rise of Wal-Mart stores across the country. Never the less the question is still asked, why does Wal-Mart affect the local economy?
Although small businesses do not make a lot of major deals with large investors, most small businesses create profit revenue greater than large corporations. Small business creators are very brave considering only ten percent of small businesses survive. Unfortunately, some communities do not support local small businesses; they only support the large brand name and force small businesses to die out. Since small businesses will not have a name brand known around the world, many people from communities will not support them because they are not known on a national scale. “This, in turn will affect the local economy and drive capital out of their local economy. On average, for every one hundred dollars spent in an economy, if spent on a

It takes a while to process everything that is going on, but once you see the whole picture, the smaller details come out and are noticeable, even within the visually assaulting Square. The tall buildings are the first things you recognize; just the sheer size of them makes you feel like a tiny, unremarkable speck of dust. Each has its own character and was created with a unique design. A uniting factor of the buildings is the windows. The glass surface reflects the afternoon sun’s light, making a giant mirror from the buildings’ sides. The mirrors create an enormous hall of other building’s distorted reflections. Hanging from the buildings are advertisements for everything under the sun. Many billboards are for the different musicals that are going to be shown at Broadway soon; the classics, like West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera, Annie, and Wicked, are always there. Others are announcing the release of a new HP laptop, or Samsung HDTV. Some unveil a high fashion store’s new fall line of sweaters and jeans. Of course, there is the obligatory Coke commercial, telling you to enjoy a refreshing bottle of ice cold Coke.
The purpose of this paper is to briefly analyze why burrs and rough spots suddenly started to appear on quarter panel parts at an automotive company. Three out of four production lines at an automotive plant facility experienced defects of manufactured panel parts. Also, an analysis of how the panel problem is related to organizational sub-culture, organizational politics and job stress. Although there are several implications of various issues related to organizational culture, organizational politics and job stress is important because it determines how human capital within an organization will demonstrate the capacity to cope with working for the organization, thus determining the success of the organization. “To illustrate, studies have shown that job stress results from the interaction of the worker and the conditions of the workplace, i.e., the culture (Vigoda, 2002).” “Likewise, there are studies conducted that found organizational politics to have an adverse effect on psychological issues such as job stress (Ferris, Russ, & Fandt,1989).” Therefore, an organizations most valued asset is its employees.
