Introduction
Russia has been the largest country in the world. It stretches from Eastern Europe all the way to the shores of the Pacific Ocean (Magocsi, 2000). There are two parts to Russia. One part is present- day Russia which is inhabited by ethnic Russians (Magosci, 2000). The other part was once a part of the Russian Empire and then the Soviet Union (Magosci, 2000). Much of European Russia was part of Kievan Rus a medieval state (Magosci, 2000). Over the years the Soviet Union disappeared as a country. Then the soviet republics became independent and then came the country Russia (Magosci, 2000). The reason why I am interested in this country is because a friend always talked about this country. One of the differences would be religion. Russians are usually classified as an Orthodox Christian, Jew, and nominal Jew (Magosci, 2000). Common American religions can be catholic, Christian, or other religion depending on the person’s belief. In tradition Russian society women were dependent on their husbands. That has changed now a high percentage of women are in the labor force. The Russian culture still believes that women should still perform tasks such as cleaning, shopping, and cooking (Williams, 2016). Another difference would be their political beliefs. Russians are not really involved in political life in the U.S. They are more involved in labor union activity. Reason being is because they are accused of being socialists or communists. Russians are confident in what they believe. They have an appreciation for wholeness, complete commitment and faith (Russia, 2016). They have to believe that someone is good and honest before building a relationship. These differences are important to understand when comparing to American
