It is urged by Roman Catholics and the apologists of eastern orthodox that the believes and the teachings of the fathers of the church give a better image of true apostolic Christianity than the beliefs that came as a result of the reformation. Majority still have faith that fathers are the main successors of the apostles of Jesus Christ the son of God. According to the arguments, fathers from the apostles used the unwritten traditions as teachings. This tradition has continued to generations up to date through faith. This was contrary to the reformers and their successors who believed that some Christian aspects of the church fathers better reflected the thought, customs and language aspects of their cultural environment. The roman influence The artists of the renaissance used an art that was more classical and they showed the human beauty and religion predominantly. The Renaissance art had well defined landscapes, natural folds in drapery and three dimensional objects or people. The middle ages art was focused on religion and symbolic representations (Doc.A). At the same time the new artistic styles almost kind of mocked the the movements and interest of the new age. That is how the renaissance changed has man’s view of man on art.(doc.A)
During the Renaissance artists changed the way they painted and sculpted, they learned how to paint in all three dimensions, which brought life and realism to their works. Also, getting away from the religious roots of art created an entirely new type of art that was rich in drama and emotion. This was also the time period when painting with oils was started.
The Roman Catholic Church is the largest body of Christians in the world. Catholics are concentrated more heavily in North America, Europe and South America than any other place. The traces of the beginning of the Catholic Church began about A.D. 30; this is the time when Jesus Christ was mandating his apostles to spread the teachings about the Kingdom of God. (Gills Web). Catholics have the belief that Christ inaugurated the church to carry to his people the salvation that he had brought to the world. They also believe that with the aid of God they have managed to preserve his teachings. Belief in God’s revelation is religious faith. Some beliefs that the Roman Catholic’s acquire are the Trinity and creation, Sin, the Incarnation, and salvation, Life after death, Worship and Baptism, Confirmation, and Mass. (Gills Web). Trinity and creation is where Catholics presume there is only one God. This one God exists of a unit of three persons – The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three persons form the Holy Trinity. (Gills Web) Although this is true there is still only one God.
Paintings from the Renaissance were very different than the painting of the Middle Ages. During the Renaissance paintings were available to the public instead of just the church, they showed emotion and brought to light new ideas. The church slowly lost power as these new ideas were less about the church and more about the real
Before the 16th century Protestant Reformation, Christianity it Europe was in a questionable and somewhat corrupt state. During the mid 15th century central and western Europe was set up in the form of a hierarchy, which was headed by the pope. At this period in time the pope claimed all spiritual authority over Christians, as well as political authority over all inhabitants of the Papal States. In addition to the claims the pope made, the church also owned close to one-fourth of the land in Europe that lead to a strong centralization of papal authority. Close to all of the Europeans at this time were Christian and would pay taxes directly to the church as a result of this ownership. European Christians were taught in their upbringing that without the guidance and rituals of the priests and the church, there would be no path for them to salvation. Despite the church attempting to teach morality among members, the clergy started to become greedy and full of corruption that fueled their desire for ...

words that help capture what is medieval art. The artists behind these pieces of artwork
The Renaissance time period started in the late 14th century and it lasted all through the 16th century. It all started in the late Middle ages throughout Italy (http://fashionhistory.net) taking at least one-hundred years before it reached the Northern Alps. This was also the period where the word “European” was put in use and understood by other places, and the word “Renascrere” originated from the Italian word “Renascrere” and it meant to be re-born. The word Renascrere fitted perfectly to this age due to the fact that many had intellectual pursuits and creative energy was re-born (www.richeast.org). The Renaissance would be best known for its artistic aspect and famous polymaths as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo given the term “Renaissance men.” It was an effective cultural and development of perspective in painting movement spreading to the rest of Europe and the advancements in science. The Middle Ages is used to describe the time for European history. From the fall of the Roman Empire to the period of the Renaissance. The Middle Ages covers roughly 3 different western history periods; classical antiquity, medieval period, and modern period.
Seeing that the government or society as a whole couldn’t provide a strong authority figure as the church did, people innately were pulled into the church. The Catholic Church provided a place where they were had to a higher standard and placed each citizen in their own place in society. The hierarchal structure of the church gave the impression of stability and strength, because if people had an awareness of an obvious power structure they would be more likely to rely on it. Beginning with the Pope, who presided over the entire Catholic faith, then the Bishops whose jobs were to look over the parishes or a region, and then finally the priests who presided over individual churches, the hierarchal nature of the church was very organized and elaborate. The structure of the church allowed for the accountability of the parishioners to be greater because they had to go through many different layers before they could get to God. This dependence of people, during the middle ages, on the Church, stemmed directly from the Migration Periods turmoil’s from lack of political stability and the structure that the church could provide which all led to the power that the church held during the Middle
The shift between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance was characterized by great socio-economic, political, and religious changes. Politically, the feudal system of the Middle Ages was exchanged for a more stable centralized republic/monarchy system that gave the people more freedom and input. Religiously, secularism became more important as stability gave people a chance to concern themselves with the “here and now” rather than simply the “hereafter.” Socially, there was a shift from dogma and unshakeable belief to humanism and the ability to interpret things for oneself. The Middle Ages began around 400 CE and lasted until 1400 CE while the Renaissance began around 1200 and continued until 1600. The 200 years that overlap between these two periods contain many pieces of “transition” art in which it is obvious that the change is beginning to take place. These collective changes that took place in this period dictated change in art as well. There were changes in iconography, style, purpose, and patronage that facilitated the overall transformation of art from a sense of illustrating what you are told to believe is true to optical realism and conveying how you yourself interpret that “truth”.
Art has gone through many significant developments throughout history. The most important turning point was the renaissance. Art took a huge turn before the 1500’s and even after. The Renaissance has assisted the world of art in breaking away from a classic structure and shaping it to what it is day. Prior to this cultural rebirth, artworks were mostly not made to scale. Paintings were unrealistic and disproportionate. Religious figures seemed to be the focus of many works. The Renaissance changed the old social context of art by introducing humanism, new themes and techniques.
The Baroque era was the age of magic. Flat surfaces became three-dimensional and paint on plaster became alive. It was the age of masterful illusion. Nothing exhibits this mastery better than Baroque ceiling paintings.
I think the key word for the period is “gothic” and it is based on ornamentation. I know that medieval art is effected by oriental and islamic art and the usage of ornamentation, dragons, miniature-like paintings are proofs for this.
Art and architecture show the changes between time periods and cultural change. During the Middle Ages the church was the major focus and that is shown through paintings and buildings. The Renaissance time period was all about people and that is evident through all of the self portraits and the classical antiquity inspired buildings. Art shows the influence and cultural changes of a time period. Focus changes through time and that is evident through art.
