The facts are plain and simple. It is thought that civilisation was started almost three thousand years ago by the first Greek empires. Further into history the concept was engineered and modernised by the Roman Empire. Mostly, Romans are looked on as civilised because of their technology, architecture, legislative system and form of government. Their massive military power meant constant conquering of new lands and expansion of the empire. Expansion of the empire meant expansion of their economy. An state with a stable, expanding economy are viewed as civilised even in this day and age. But how does this match with their acts of barbarity. They tried so hard to separate themselves in every way from their concept of savagery but how does compare to our concept of savagery.

Speaking about civilisation, Roman became one of the largest empires in the history of mankind. Mostly because they understood and developed simple crafts such as writing and medicine to literature and surgery. They supported ideals such as infrastructure as a way of development for a number of reasons including to increase the cultural separation between other under-developed savage nations that bordered Rome. Romans are widely considered to be one of the first civilised races and that meant they had to of showed civility to their people otherwise they would of be savages with paved roads. Something that can be related as a unfair and prejudice. Rome permitted slavery and the trade to slaves. These slaves were treated no different than animals. They could be bought, sold, trade and even discipline by their masters. They didn’t do more than be servants, worked in the farm and even cleaned the city sewers. But the they were still mistreated by the whole system...

...loitation. Rome had Caesars who did they same. But equally with great leaders who brought sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, road, fresh water, public health and peace! It might not even matter now whether if Rome was just or cruel. But that facts are that the human race as a whole wouldn’t be this advanced at this point of time if they Roman Empire hadn’t existed. And If Rome hadn’t existed then an empire similar to replace its space in history would of been enviable.

In the words of the Roman politician, Tiberius Gracchus about the Caesar Commodus I think he knows what Rome is. Rome is the mob. Conjure magic for them and they'll be distracted. Take away their freedom and still they'll roar. The beating heart of Rome is not the marble of the senate, it's the sand of the coliseum. He'll bring them death - and they will love him for it.
