The first thing an educator has to consider is the curriculum students should be taught. Educators must use the common core standards for ELA and Math, as well as the Georgia Performance Standards for Science and Social Studies. They use these standards to plan what is to be learned, how it is to be learned, in what order it is to be learned, and how to determine the strengths and weaknesses of individual students. Classroom teachers should collaborate with other teachers at their grade level to determine what standards and objectives are going to be taught and in what order. Teachers should also meet with the grade above and below the one they teach to ensure that there are no gaps in student learning. Once a teacher establishes the standards to be taught, they can begin the difficult task of planning instruction.
The educator’s role during instruction is to design and create instructional experiences based upon their knowledge of content and curriculum, as well as students prior knowledge, and assessment. The educator of today has the difficult and rewarding task of teaching and inspiring young minds. The purpose of education is to prepare today’s youth for life as an adult. In order to do this educators need to find creative and innovative ways in which to give students the knowledge and skills necessary for success. Students who have a great early childhood educational experience go on to do better in high school and college. By having a plan for curriculum, instruction, and classroom management, as well as collaborating with parents, the educator can create independent and motivated learners.
