According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary the word “Role Model” is defined as “a person whose behavior in a particular role is imitated by others” (Role Model, n.d.). With just because you have “followers,” that doesn’t make you a role model. In the article “How Kim Kardashian became a role model we can’t afford to lose” by Andrea Peyser (2016), the word “Role Model” is altered from its positive outlook; to a very broad and loosely used word in today’s society. It’s important to choose who we call “Role Models” and how their outlook can be a positive influence instead of a negative one. in the article “Role Model OR Authentic Professional?” by Merz (2015), it depicts the difference between people who are famous and ones that are actual role models, who is a positive influence (Merz 2015). Values such as: self-respect, boldness, optimism, and responsibility, are just some of the values most role models tend to possess. Another definition of the word “Role Model” is “Someone that cares enough to set a good example for the kids to look up to (Z, M. 2007). In the article “Moral Motivation” by Brink (1997), goes on to explain why is important we make sure our actions are ethically and morally correct. For example, not posting vulgar images of oneself. Self-respect is one major trait we look for in someone who is a role model; having the feeling that one is conducting themselves with honor, dignity, pride, and confidence. These are qualities that Kim Kardashian does not possess, displayed by her provocative photos and repulsive video, Superstar. These types of careless acts are ones we would not want anyone to follow, not having self-respect for themselves, let alone the responsibility to guide and influence individuals
