Good “Role” Model

As a student, I am expected to be on time, be attentive in class, study for tests, complete homework assignments, earn acceptable grades, and respect staff members. Being an A/B student, I struggle in every one of these areas every day. As one would predict, role conflict is common as a student. Trying to manage a full schedule of classes as a senior can sometimes feel like I am constantly juggling priorities. While I try never to completely neglect one of these responsibilities, I do not value each of them equally. The expectation I struggle with most is being attentive in class.

Junior year I lightened up my schedule for the second semester and enrolled in an ACT prep class. I bought three different ACT prep books and filled every page with pen and highlighter. After February 7th of my junior year, I was an average student with a 34 ACT. I knew that from then on a scholarship was a dream in reach. When I read a letter from the University of Alabama at Birmingham at the start of senior year, a weight was lifted from my shoulders. My ACT combined with my master status as a student had helped me achieve the status I had always sought for: a scholarship recipient.
As a scholarship recipient at Alabama, I was expected to maintain an acceptable role performance as a student for the remainder of my senior year, stay involved in school and in my community, enroll as a UAB freshman on time, and keep from breaking rules listed in the fine print of my scholarship contract. My role performance in this area is not perfect, but acceptable. It will not be easy for me to remain this role throughout college, as a 3.45 GPA is required for me to renew my scholarship every
