Roland Smith was born November 30, 1951 in Portland, Oregon. He is currently 61 and living in Tualatin, Oregon with his wife and stepchildren. Roland has obtained many awards over the years including American Society of Cinematographers Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography in Regular Series, "Book of the Year" awards in Colorado, Nevada, South Carolina, and Florida, as well as in his native Oregon and Peak won the 2007 National Outdoor Book Award.
• Prediction o I predict his love for traveling is what drove him to write a book about mountain climbing. o I do not think I will enjoy the literature because I have no interest on mountain climbing.

• Prediction o Being that he has received awards for this book I predict that it may be an enjoyable book even for people that do not enjoy the idea of mountain climbing. o I predict there is a chance that I may enjoy the book depending on the story line.

The novel Peak is about a troubled or misunderstood boy who goes to live with his long lost father to get out of going to Juvenile Detention. While living with his father he writes what is going on in his life as a final assignment for his English class. Once moving to his fathers he finds out that his dad has a goal for him to become the youngest person to reach the summit of Mount Everest. I believe peak will succeed but not without a few hurdles along the way. I also think he will learn a lot from his experience with his father and climbing the mountain. From what I read previewing it looks like this book will be a suspense filled, high action novel based on the fictional first person setting. After previewing the novel I think this is a chance I may enjoy the book as I understand the position of being misunderstood.
It is a fiction book. It is for young adults. I enjoy reading these types of books and typically read them more than other types of books.
I would most definitely recommend this novel to those who like adventure. This novel is non-stop adventure filled novel staring a young boy against Mother Nature herself.

... to read, there are front of your seat moments, sad, and happy moments that the related topic books don’t have. The DK Handbook doesn’t have a storyline and is nothing but information. Fewer students should complain about reading a novel when the alternative is reading a book full of nothing but information. The Road is worth reading in more than just college classes, maybe high school classes should read it; even more novel reading fans should pick up The Road and try to set it down after fifty pages because it isn’t easy!

The novel "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer, he writes about an experience that changes his life when Outside magazine asks him to write an article about the commercialism of Mount Everest, he knew from that moment that he needed to climb the mountain. But of course his expedition does not go as expected. On May 10th Krakauer reaches the summit after a extremely stressful and treacherous trek up, but only to have to scale down the mountain with his team in one of the most dangerous seasons in the history of Everest. Many things went wrong when they came down the mountain and throughout this book, Jon attempts to evaluate what exactly happened and how things went wrong. He researches and figures out every person actions on that mountain. He has speculations about the failures of the expedition, and blames the catastrophe due to a series of little
I would recommend this book to all the public, because it is a really easy book to read (the easy version we read) and to understand. I think that juniors (next year seniors) should read only the easy version; I think the normal version can confused you very easily. To be honest I’m not into reading, but I can say that this was one of the best books I had ever read.
This book was a good read for me, but I also read book reviews to help me keep track on what I am reading. These book reviews just made a better understanding of what I was reading.
Disliking Books By Gerald Graff is about the authors own aversions, starting as a young boy, who grew up simply disliking reading books, for both academic and leisure purposes. Growing up in his neighborhood, it was highly disregarded for a boy to enjoy reading; they were looked at as “sissies” and had the potential to have been beaten up. He maintained this ideology all the way into his college career, where ironically, he majored in English. Although by this point he replaced his fear of being beaten up with the fear of failing his college courses, he was able to squeak by with doing his homework at the mare minimum. He felt as though he wasn’t able to quite relate, much less, enjoy the text. It wasn’t until his junior year he was finally able to find the spark he had been lacking all these years. It was over the controversial ending of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Some of the critics believe the story really ended when the boys basically stole Jim away and other believed it was actually when they learned that Jim had already been freed. Finally realizing that “reading and intellectual discussion might actually have something to do with my real life, I became less embarrassed about using the intellectual formulas” (Graff, Para 12). He then turned to more and more literary works to understand further of what reading critically can help you appreciate, even turning his lesson into his future profession as an English Professor.

There is no knowledgeable information in the books; they are for entertainment purpose only. I would also not suggest that any of my students read the books. If they find them on their own that would be perfectly fine.
I would recommend this book to anybody, it appeals any audience. It's a wonderful story
