The world is a funny place. No one really understands everything that has happened, that is happening and that is about to come. In order to dictate how we came about we use theories to quench our curiosity. Theories come from everywhere for example religion gives us simple fairy tale like stories of our existence and science gives us more of a mathematical rational point of view. The problem is, how do we know which one is right and which one is wrong? The honest answer to that is that there is no answer. Neither theory is 100 percent verifiable; each theory has a lack of evidence. And yet to this day people are so caught up in what they believe that the planet has trouble advancing in the study of how we came to be and there is a constant conflict between science and religion. The movie Contact by Robert Zemeckis solves the age-old conflict between Science and religion through the hero myth. The movie demonstrates that if people were able to accept Religious and scientific worldviews we would be able to advance and find out how exactly we came about. This conflict between science and religion is well seen in the movie contact where the main character Elli has an opinionated atheistic worldview and where her companions throughout the movie share different worldviews such as agnosticism, materialsm and fundamentalism. But what is a worldview exactly? To me a worldview is simply the way we see everything in front of us: do we see things positively, do we believe god created earth, and do we believe in fairytales? Religious believers have been taught to believe and dedicate their life to god, if someone is to prove the non-existence of god they, in their mind they are not virtuous. Science and religion are in conflict solely because they oppose each other, they, are polar opposites. Science believes in facts and hates unreliable evidence whereas religion is all about faith and in believing in the word of god without proof. The conflict is there because no matter what the beliefs do not match up, one relies on faith whereas the other relies on facts. Now how is one with either view supposed to accept being either faithful or factual?
In conclusion, it is possible for science and religion to overlap. Although Gould’s non-overlapping magisterial claims that creationism doesn’t conflict with evolution, it doesn’t hold with a religion that takes the biblical stories literally. Moreover, I defended my thesis, there is some overlap between science and religion and these overlaps cause conflict that make it necessary to reject either science or religion, by using Dawkins’ and Plantinga’s arguments. I said earlier that I agree with Dawkins that both science and religion provide explanation, consolation, and uplift to society. However, there is only conflict when science and religion attempt to explain human existence. Lastly, I use Plantinga’s argument for exclusivists to show that such conflict means that science and religion are not compatible. It demands a rejection t either science or religion.

Science is defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “knowledge about or study of the natural world based on facts learned through experiments and observation.” Religion is based on faith, but no one can describe a feeling and beliefs as evidence because it cannot be proven. The key word is facts, and the facts are concluded by experiments and observations. The view of a person can be a factor in how they define science and religion. The view can become narrow for some if siding with one. The two subjects are different and cause controversy, which is a cause for them to be in different classrooms.
What is a worldview? A worldview is an idea or thought that manifest in our brain but is originated from how we perceive and feel towards events that happen during our life. The opinions we express outwardly in action disseminates to others with whom we surround ourselves with, and vise versa. Collectively we take in worldviews and judge them to our own view, and settle on a conscious agreement to what we hold to be truth.

My own definition of worldview is set of beliefs about the most important issues in life and my reaction to it. While in agreement with Jeff Baldwin’s eyeglass concept, I choose to compare my Christian worldview to an internal navigational system. When I am lost and need to be found, Christ is omnipresent. He knows my location and guides me into another direction. “It’s a roadmap, a guide for getting around in life, for interpreting reality, and for making choices” (The Importance of Worldview, 2011, p.11). Hopefully my final destination will be in the “city of gold, as clear as glass” (NLT, Revelation, 21:18).

Understanding science and religion historically most individuals would assume that the two differ more than they relate. For decades, there has been the overwhelming debate about the differences between science and religion, and the issues that have set them apart from each other. However, personally, when it comes to the views, and goals of the two they share very similar ideologies and attributes.
At first glance, many facets of science and religion seem to be in direct conflict with each other. Because of this, I have generally kept them confined to separate spheres in my life. I have always thought that science is based on reason and cold, hard facts and is, therefore, objective. New ideas have to be proven many times by different people to be accepted by the wider scientific community, data and observations are taken with extreme precision, and through journal publications and papers, scientists are held accountable for the accuracy and integrity of their work. All of these factors contributed to my view of science as objective and completely truthful. Religion, on the other hand, always seems fairly subjective. Each person has their own personal relationship with God, and even though people often worship as a larger community with common core beliefs, it is fine for one person’s understanding of the Bible and God to be different from another’s. Another reason that Christianity seems so subjective is that it is centered around God, but we cannot rationally prove that He actually exists (nor is obtaining this proof of great interest to most Christians). There are also more concrete clashes, such as Genesis versus the big bang theory, evolution versus creationism, and the finality of death versus the Resurrection that led me to separate science and religion in my life. First off, it is important to realize that religion and science have to be related in some way, even if it is not the way I mentioned before. If religion and science were completely incompatible, as many people argue, then all combinations between them would be logically excluded. That would mean that no one would be able to take a religious approach to a scientific experiment or vice versa. Not only does that occur, but it occurs rather commonly. Scientists often describe their experiments and writings in religious terms, just as religious believers support combinations of belief and doubt that are “far more reminiscent of what we would generally call a scientific approach to hypotheses and uncertainty.” That just proves that even though they are not the same, religion and science have to be related somehow.
