Population and sampling
Population of the study is all types of road users in the western province that is because each individual in the western province comes under some category of road users. According to the department of census and statistics the entire population in the western province is 5865 000 (Registrar General's Department, 2010), most valid and reliable data would come from every member of the population this is very hard to achieve it is costly and time consuming (10 Step Guide to Sampling by RCU, 2010), for those reasons research team choose not to use a census therefore a sample of the population was selected to perform the focus group survey and the questionnaire.

Sample
The term sampling frame describes a numbered list of the population of interest that is used to draw the sample in a survey. It is used to select the individual who will be interviewed. The sample frame for the study is comprised of all key people of different types of road users (motorists, passengers, pedestrians, truck drivers, cyclists etc.) demographic and police crash database was made use of when developing the sample frame.
The results of the survey would be different if we used the whole western province to implement the survey so this made the representative sample important; therefore the sample was selected in proportion to the entire population .Colombo district holds the highest Percentage which is 43% of the total population so they were given 85 questionnaires, likewise the sample was selected
Stratified random sampling was the best suited sampling method as all types of road user groups can effortlessly be identified in the population. The population of interest that is all stakeholder groups were categor...

...dents (road users) of the western province during a period of one week. It was a main form of primary data gathering to the study because our end product of the research is also to enhance awareness on the road.
Focus group study was carried out to find a specific objective of the research, which was to find out elements that should be incorporated in a good road safety advertisement. It was conducted with 50 participants varying from age gender and usage of the road.
And, finally the research team was able to conduct a study on public awareness by observation.

Allstate presents a very common and relatable brand of exigence, the emergence of reckless drivers during your day-to-day routine and how it causes situational and financial inconvenience. Because this is an issue that all drivers face the risk of, the range of audience applies to practically anyone with a driver’s license. Although, this infomercial does impact teenagers and their parents even more particularly by making this specific source of trouble embodied through an adolescent. The advertisment’s purpose is to remind you of the reasons why you should have insurance, by creating the scenario with a destructive girl. Beside that, Allstate wants to point out to viewers
MAFMAD is a competition intended for people 25 years or younger to make a short film with the theme “Your Mates Life is in Your Hands,” and to encourage teenagers to speak up when they feel unsafe. Speaking up can save the life of their friends and themselves and prevent the situation Burton created. Burton is a regular person that wanted to make a difference in preventing these types of deaths. Jonathan Burton’s ad successfully makes a case against drinking and driving through strong rhetoric and by making use of the window effect to connect to the target audience, teenagers.
Repetition is often used in the safe driving campaign in order to successfully convey their message and also to ensure, that the viewer retains their main idea. Fear is also often used in an effort reach the viewer on an emotional level. Presently the Government and the transport department have worked in collaboration with one another to bring forth a message to the public about road safety. And since road fatalities have affected Australia so much that the advice has become propaganda in every sense of the term ? There is one idea propagated repeatedly in an emotional manner with appropriate cartoons and even name-calling. But has the massive propaganda campaign set out by the Government and the transport department been effective in ensuring the safety of motorist
According to the Journal of Applied Behavioral Analysis, "automobile crashes are the leading cause of death for those aged 3 to 33, with 43,005 (118 per day) Americans killed in 2002 alone" (Clayton, Helms, Simpson, 2006). Worldwide, vehicle accidents consist of 1.2 millions deaths per year, "behind only childhood infections and AIDS as cause of death amount people aged 5 to 30 years old" (Clayton., 2006). The annual cost of road accidents is estimated about $518 billion"(Factor, Yair, Mahalel, 2013). The fact alone of being in a moving, heavy vehicle is a danger in itself but individuals that do not wear their seat belts, talk on the phone, text, and do other distracting behavior also put themselves in even more harmful situations.
This means maintaining an environment which recognises the benefits a healthy lifestyle offers not only to the individual but the broader community. There is a strong link between an individuals health and their environment, meaning an individuals health is somewhat reliant on their environment. Supportive environments are significant in improving road safety as a transport network which protects its users will empower its drivers to drive safely, respect others and the roads. With the sheer amounts of youth road fatalities, campaign “Speeding, no one thinks big of you” (2007) was created to target young male drivers on provisional licenses, who commonly speed to impress passengers. It was successful in reducing the masculinity associated with speeding among the provisional drivers, and the number of youth speeding fatalities was halved. The construction of cycle ways which separate cyclists from traffic proved successful in reducing accidents on the roads and encouraged new cyclists, which has seen improvement in congestion at peak
Drinking and driving has an always been problem in modern day society. In today’s society there have been many messages given to humanity about the dangers of impaired driving. However, despite this people continue to drive drunk and put many civilians in harm’s way. With drinking and driving being illegal, there were still 13, 625 deaths directly relating from alcohol-related highway crashes in the US in 2010 alone (“Impaired Driving.”). Statistics like this one show that drunk driving is still a major issue in today society. Mother Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is a non-profit organization that missions to support victims of drunk driving and to prevent it all together. In 2012 MADD released a public service announcement called “Impact” specifically targeting the problems of drunk driving. This public service announcement shows the dangers and the impact of one accident on people’s lives that were not even present in the crash caused by drunk driving. MADD’s public service announcement uses sound effects, metaphoric imagery, slow-motion, and facial visuals to show the

Method used in collecting information includes qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data is used to determine the history of the community; quantitative data such as windshield survey, focus group and one on one interview were also included because both sources were important for the past and current information of the community (Stamler & Yiu, 2012, p.221).
A new Government Road Safety Strategy was recently launched for the years 2013 to 2020. A number of actions from the strategy will directly feed into our program over the coming years. These actions include;
Specific Purpose Statement: To inform my audience how to insure their safety, and the safety of others, while on the road
The results are analysed and findings used to deduce a pattern in the collected data. Since surveys are easy to distribute through the internet and emails, they are considered whenever researcher seek knowledge about a specific matter. Unlike both interviews and questionnaires, survey can be distributed to a wide-range of potential respondents, which helps researchers to draw comprehensive conclusions from its findings. Nevertheless, surveys are not ideal for collecting in-depth data on a research topic because they are only designed to gather what majority think of something as opposed to collecting detailed rationale for a phenomenon or
The objective of the study is to answer the research questions rather than tests or formulate hypothesis. The measurements will be in terms of transcripts from interview and the theory was not inclusive, therefore this will allow the analysis to be extracted from the themes of evidence collected via interviews to be presented as consistent. Therefore explaining why qualitative research methodology was chosen.
There are many roads across the world. Based on where a person is in the world, safety varies with the place. Road safety varies throughout the world because of how crowded a place is. If a road is in a very populated area, the more crowded and unsafe the roads are. There are many different types of roads and many different population numbers around the world unsafe, moderately safe, and extremely safe are three tiers that can categorize a place’s safety on the road.
The key to good research is preparation, preparation, and preparation. Hence, the key to making good sampling choices is preparation. Trochim (2008) defines sampling as the drawing of a sample (a subset) from a population (the full set). In our everyday lives we all draw samples without realising it. For instance, when one decides to taste some unfamiliar food or drink that is some form of sampling. Williams (2003 74) posits that “Sampling is a search for typicality). On the other hand, (Clark: 2006 87) defines sampling as “a process of drawing a number of individual cases from a larger population”. According to (Chiromo: 2006 16), “a sample is a smaller group or subset of the population”.
I have discussed major safety topics including road and work safety and their effect in our daily living. We can’t evade from danger. The importance is that we learn to control and avoid factors that can cause us harm, injury or loss. This starts by making smart decisions. We should continue to teach our children to detect unsafe situations, places, things, and elements at an early age so that they practice safety habits throughout their life. In conclusion, is better to be safe than sorry.
