The Road Less Traveled; A New Psychology of Love, Traditional Values and Spiritual Growth
The Road Less Traveled, written by M. Scott Peck M.D. was the book I chose from the list the class was given. The book discusses how people react to different situations we encounter throughout our lives, from childhood lessons and how we are raised to our reactions to situations we deal with as adults. The book is broken down into four main parts; discipline, love, growth and religion and grace. And within each of those sections Peck breaks those down further. M. Scott Peck is a best selling author and psychiatrist, he was educated at Harvard and Case Western Reserve. Dr. Peck lives in northwestern Connecticut where he has a private practice. The Road Less Traveled is an amazing self-awareness book that helps people face life’s difficult problems, making it easy for people to relate to some of the issues talked about in the book.
The first Topic that he wrote about is Discipline. When he breaks it down in different sections like; pain, responsibility, character disorders healthy depression and delaying gratification, he sums this chapter up when he states ‘Life is Difficult.”(15) Discipline is what we need to solve any of life’s problems. Peck talks about how we avoid pain and any emotional suffering is one of the leading causes of mental illness. People go to great lengths to avoid emotional suffering causing them to become stagnant in spiritual growth. When he writes about Delaying gratification, he uses a patient’s cake eating habits to make his point. We learn at a young age to complete tasks then reward ourselves. When we do the most enjoyable parts first we tend to procrastinate the rest or not even complete it. Responsibility is a...

Each patient is experiencing a different problem and using his knowledge and experimenting with each patient and different schools of thought psychology, He can help his patient’s recover and lead normal healthy lives.
I would recommend this book to anyone, it has sections that almost everyone can relate to. When people see the issue they are facing in print it helps them come to terms that they are not unique or alone with life being difficult. If they read that through therapy the person they relate to is now living healthy and happy lives it gives them hope that their problems can be faced and they can live normal lives.

I can relate this book to my life in many ways; it was easier for me to relate to this book because were both 18 year old girls who want to live life the right way. Also I don’t want to live life trying to be like everyone else, so this was really encouraging to me. A part that helped me was the part about confidence and how important that is. Its important to have confidence in your faith because say you get in a situation you can protect your faith and stand up for what you believe. Another part that I can really apply to my life was how when people were talking about her she didn’t even beg to know. Personally whenever I hear that someone was talking about me, I really want to know what they said! This helped me to learn that why fill my brain with negativity sinful gossip, because that’s not what Jesus would do.
I think that the messages this book displays are important for anyone to think about, and apply to their lives every day.
I really enjoyed this book. Alot of the passages made me really appreciate and reflect on those that are in my life, loved ones, or even a stranger that holds a door open for me. There is much love and gratitude to be dwelled on in life and I believe that if more people read Dr. Byock’s The Four Things That Matter Most, it would help so many people. Even if you think all of your relationships are already perfect, there is always room to grow. I definitely will think of my words and actions before I speak, and add the four things more to my life.
I always looked at death as such a sad thing that is eventually going to occur to everyone. However, after reading this book, it made me realize death can actually be a beautiful thing. Death allows a person to go to a next life, one where they will be loved and others will be there for them. It was interesting to be able to read about stories that these hospice care workers witnessed themselves. I have experienced a few deaths within my life and I never coped with them very well. After reading this book, I honestly believe I will be able to look at the positive side of death and be able to deal with my emotions better. I can also help others surrounding me deal with a death that they are experiencing. This book was filled with information that I loved learning. For example, I never knew that a dying person can choose a time to die. The thought of this never occurred to me before. I always thought that when it was someone’s time to go, they had no choice. But, a dying person can “put off” passing on until they see a certain person or event that has great significance in their life. Nevertheless, there are still people who will wait to die until they’re all alone in the room. This book makes you think of real life situations and think what you would do in them. Taken as a whole, it was a very in depth book that changes the way you would naturally perceive

The book makes me understand the importance of reading and know how weak I’m in reading comprehension. Not only is my reading speed slow, but also my thoughts after reading are immature. I haven’t fix some time to read English books before so my background knowledge and vocabulary are far from abundant.

This book was a good read for me, but I also read book reviews to help me keep track on what I am reading. These book reviews just made a better understanding of what I was reading.
This book has changed my life and my literacy for the better. The way the author uses his words and memories to create these raw emotions and narrating them. I learned things that changed my view on life and made me feel as if I had gained more knowledge. He taught the literacies he wanted people to understand through mostly subliminal messages. By reading this book I felt like I had better understanding of support, acceptance, and morals.
My interest in clinical psychology developed through my four years as a volunteer at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Modesto, California. Only months prior to becoming a volunteer, I myself had been a patient. The summer before, I had gone through an invasive
Those who have experienced with cognitive health issues will be able to recognize how an able body with an irregular mindset can hold their lives back right under the surveillance of the people around them. Having been struggling with major depressive disorder for years, I am able to witness the changes that occur within my life and the effect of the absence of “equilibrium” (Sartorius. 662) that an individual needs in order to conciliate with oneself. Through the journey to recovery, I learn that in order to overcome the problem, one must first learn to acknowledge the issue, and explore the different actions that can be taken to treat it with. In the perspective of someone who is aiming to become a healthcare provider, it is a never ending cycle of learning how to better improve the ways to take care of each patient, and most oftenly, the patient’s emotion has great effects on how their diseases can be treated. It is beneficial to view “the disease with the person who has it” (Sartorius. 663) in order for doctors to progress through the treatment, as this method “improve the practice of medicine” and provides a more “realistic” and “humane” (Sartorius. 663) connection between the two parties. Ultimately, both the caregiver and the receiver gains experience from the improved
My experience in mental health clinical was very different from any other clinical I had before. In a mental health clinical setting, I am not only treating client’s mental illnesses, I am also treating their medical problems such as COPD, diabetes, chronic renal failure, etc. Therefore, it is important to prepare for the unexpected events. In this mental health clinical, I learned that the importance of checking on my clients and making sure that they are doing fine by performing a quick head-to toes assessment at the beginning of my shift. I had also learned that client’s mental health illness had a huge impact on their current medical illness.
I would recommend this book to anybody, it appeals any audience. It's a wonderful story
In analyzing the poem 'The Road Not Taken'; by Robert Frost, it represents 'the classic choice of a moment and a lifetime.';(pg 129) He relies much on the reflections of nature to convey his theme. However, this poem seems to be in essence very simple but
I would recommend this book to everyone because it is interesting and it made me reflect about whom I am, and what I am doing with my life. It made me think about all the risk that I did not take because I was afraid of what others think. It made me realize that sometimes I need to be selfish with what I want. It gave me the pleasured to rethink about all the things that I did not say because I thought that it did not worth it. Sometimes it is difficult to understand all those things without being close to death. This book teaches me how can I be happy and be crazy because sometimes what we really thing is insane could be the most normal thing for others. It thought me to not be like everyone else if not to be different because that is only thing that could make us happy.
