Intro: Eating disorders adversely affects people both in biological and sociological aspect. Not only has it cost our economy additional healthcare costs, it also affects our personal relation with society and with close individuals. It is imperative to study eating disorder as we will reduce the strain on our economies, environment and on ourselves. The purpose of this paper is to understand the risk factors and treatment of eating disorders. For this topic, the purpose will be to use established research to describe the risk factors and treatment for eating disorders and then to propose my own study to investigate ways to prevent or reduce eating disorders. Anorexia nervosa is when people start to have distorted self-image, which is maintained by how the affected individual accesses their body and consumption (Cooper, 2005). Participants assigned to my Experimental Group will watch 30 min video that shows positive association with healthy eating habits or negative associations with anorexia nervosa or combination of the both. Controlled group will have no media presentation in the study. I will use the random assignment to assign participants to groups by naming individual school who will be thrown into a program that will randomly choose which scenarios they will be put in. I believe the most effective treatment is when I show both the positive association with healthy eating habits and negative association with anorexia nervosa. This would be significant as this would allow us to further investigate the implications media have on behaviour; as well as psychology and media. One limitation in this study is that we will not be able to control the media the participants see outside of school.
