The News Consumption Survey (2012) has revealed the growing demand of online and digital news consumption as more people rely on getting news with their mobile devices, such as cellphones and tablets (Kohut, Doherty, Dimock, & Keeter, 2012). According to the survey data, digital news has been surpassing other news source, particularly radio news and newspaper, over the past decade . One of its fascinating features of social media platform is that it allows ability to participate in news, or even break the news. For instance, it was the neighbor of Osama bin Laden who unknowingly break the news on the American force’s raid by sending out tweets about commotion going on next door (Gross, 2011). The primary purpose of social media platforms is to connect people with their family and friends. Therefore, the sharing functions have also become crucial as they allow users to share news to people within their networks. Hence, most of the social media websites have an incidental nature where users are more likely to be exposed to trending topics somehow, through means such as keywords and hashtags
